FOLIA ENTOMOLOGICA HUNGARICA ROVARTANI KÖZLEMÉNYEK XLVIII 1987 p. 247-250 A report on collecting trips in Australia in 1987 By G. HANGAY and A. VOJNITS (Received December 13, 1986) Abstract: A report on collecting trips in Australia in 1987. - The second joint collecting trip of the Hungarian Natural History Museum and the Australian Museum, Sydney, was made in the medium high mountainous region of New South Wales. The collected material is deposited partly in Sydney, partly in Budapest. In the collaboration of the Hungarian Natural History Museum and the Australian Museum three larger joint collecting trips have been made in the course of a three months expedition in 1980-1981 (HANGAY, HERCZEG and VOJNITS 1981). Collectings centered principally the arid and semiarid regions of Australia, the tropical and subtropical coastal zone of Queensland, and the higher elevations of the Australian Alps. The resultant material was divided between the Budapest and Sydney Museums. The museological elaboration (preparation, labelling, primary systematic grouping) has now been done. Identification work per certain groups began (BALINT 1986, RONKAY 1986). The next step in our joint project was the collecting done in February, 1987. Areas smaller than those of the earlier expeditions have now been studied, in hilly and lower montane regions which we have not visited before. The major part of the collected material consists of insects and other arthropods, deposited now partly in Budapest partly in Sydney. The Australian participant collected, besides those mentioned above, also certain other objects intended for exhibitions (plants, mammals, reptiles, amphibians, birds). The Australian Museum made available - as In earlier case - a Toyota Land Cruiser 4 WD Station Waggon, without which the trips could hardly have been realized. Our repeated thanks are due to the Museum Authorities. A very rich documentation of photographs (color transparencies) has also been secured during the collecting trips. The equipment used consisted of a Pentax 645 Camera, 55/2,8 wide angle and 120/4 Macro Pentax objectives, a 5,6/400 Novoflex objective, a 45 CT 5 flash, for the Fujichrome Professional (50, 100 and 400 ISO) film material.
