ai+cu32 (anal lobe) largely hyaline, except for a small mark adjacent to the cup extension. Cell rj with 2 large hyaline areas; basal hyaline area in rj not smoothly contiguous with a hyaline area in cell r 2+ 3 , but joining two hyaline areas in cell r 2 +3- Vein 1*4+5 wIth ventral setulae. Tephritis dudichi may be differentiated from the other five European species known to belong to this group, by the following combination of characters: Crossvein r-m usually with 4 adjacent small hyaline spots, 2 next to vein 1*4+5 and the other 2 next to vein M. Cell sc without a hyaline spot. Cell ri without a small hyaline spot near apex. Posterior notopleural and most anepisternal setae white; upper anepisternal and other thoracic setae black. Abdominal tergites with white setulae . Oviscape black. Femora dark orange, usually marked with black. Aculeus tip with a minute apical notch (fig. I); other species with an apical notch include T. leontodontis which has a very deep notch, T. neesii , T. vespertina (Loew), and T. praecox (Loew) which is very similar in its aculeus shape to T. du dichi ; however, most species of Tephritis have not yet been dissected. Aculeus length 1.5 mm. Wing figured by ACZÉL (1939: 125,1) and MIHÁLYI (1960: 60,C). Wing length o 4.2 -4.6 mm, 04.8-5.O mm. Fig. 1. Tephritis dudichi aculeus, dorsoventral outline with detail of apex shape; scale line for apex detail equals 0.1 mm. Material examined: ROMANIA: Lectotype ê , near Resita, Valiug.
