FOLIA ENTOMOLOGICA HUNGARICA ROVARTANI KÖZLEMÉNYEK XLVm 1987 p. 141-149 Seven new Rhyacophila species from Vietnam (Trichoptera: Rhyacophilidae) * BY J. OLÁH (Received December 15, 1986) Abstract: Seven new Rhyaconhila species from Vietnam (Trichoptera: Rhyacophilidae). Seven new Rhyacophila species from Vietnam are described and figured with detailed genital drawings: R. hoabinha sp.n. , R. tamdaona sp.n. , R. mahunkai sp.n., R. janosi sp.n., R . ranga sp.n. , R . banra sp .n ., R. hangnia sp.n. The caddisfly fauna of Vietnam is almost completely unknown. The nearby areas are also poorly investigated. In the year of 1986 I have collected 211 species in four northern provinces of Vietnam during two short collecting trips of three weeks each. Out of this number about only 10 species turned out to be already known. The details of the collecting trips, methods, routes, localities have already been published (MAHUNKA and OLÁH 1986; MÉSZÁROS et al. 1987). Timing the collecting trips for January and October proved to be less proper falling out of the warm season so rich in insects life. Nevertheless, the specialized and concentrated collecting effort has yielded a rather good material. The net and singling operations during the whole daytime period along waters from lowland large streams to the uppermost spring area, the night collection with bright mercury vapour lamp of 250 W operated by a portable Honda generator using a white sheet of about 10 m^ with telescope frame installation and the Malaise trap installed directly above the stream bed permitted to catch a rather high ratio of the flying caddisfly community of the given period. In this paper T describe seven new Rhyacophila species. Beside these new species I have collected only a single known Rhyaco phila species. Rhyacophila scissa Morton. 1 ó", Tamdao, Vietnam, 1300 m a. s.I. along the main stream, 14.X. 1986, \yhich is known from Assam and Burma. I am grateful to the Hungarian Academy of Sciences and to the National Centre for Scientific Research of Vietnam for providing the opportunity for the collecting trips. Rhyacophila hoabinha sp. n. (Fig. 1) Male (in alcohol). General colour dark brown, beneath pale, especially legs. Annulation on antennae conspicuous. Wing membrane dark brown with darker pubescens. Costal and subcostal area on fore-wing membrane pale, pterostigmal area dark granulated. Cross-veins r-m, m-cu and the ending of cu 2 clearly hyaline. Length and largest width of fore-wing 7.1-2.3, those of hind-wing 6.0-2.0 mm. This species appears almost black in sunshine. Male genitalia. Medial pointed process on seventh sternite. Ninth segment short ventrally and produced in a dorsal process slightly longer than preanal appendages with a short bifid apex. Inner surface of the lobes granulated. Preanal appendages short triangular with slightly sinuate distal end in lateral aspect. Sinuation visible also in dorsal aspect. Tenth segment vertical with a well-developHungarian zoological studies in Vietnam. No. 5.
