S. Mahunka szerk.: Folia Entomologica Hungarica 48. (Budapest, 1987)

On both sides of the crista one very deep hollow present. Basal half of aspis ornamented by longitudinal crests (Fig. 3). Sensillus very short, its head rounded and spiculate (Fig. 4). All prodorsal setae short and thin, not erect. Notogaster: Surface ornamented by tubercles and short ribs. All the fifteen pairs of setae very short, directed mostly backwards. Lyriflssures ips and ih not observable^(Fig. 1). Anogenital region: Two pairs of anal, three pairs of adanal setae, All short, the latter ones originating nearly at equal distance from the inner border of the ano-adanal plate. Genital plates strongly convex, with some strong crests, fugae and foveolae. Nine pairs of short, simple genital setae present. Palps and legs: Palps (Fig. 2) 3-segmented, their chaetom: 2-2-(7+l). Legs: All legs monodactylous; their setation: I: 1-4-3+2 - 5+1 - 17+3 -1. II: 1-2-2+1 -3+1 -12+2 -1. Ill: 2-2-1+1 - 2+1 - 10 - 1. IV : 2-1-0+1 - 2-10 - 1. Type material: Holotype (1248-HO-87) : Afr. 119: Tanzania, Kilimanjaro, Kibo, 3890 m. Semidesert, from roots of tussocks of grass. 1. VII. 1972. leg. T. PÖCS; 2 paratypes from the same sample. Holotype and 1 paratype (1248-PO-87) deposited in the HNHM" 1 ", and 1 paratype in the MHNG ++ Remarks: On the basis of the unique shape of its aspis the new species stands very far from all the heretofore known Phthiracaridae species. Arcoppia gilva (Wallwork, 1961) This species was described from Ghana on the basis of the damaged type specimen only. Therefore, I present some figures and a short redescription: Measurements. - Length: 288-324 urn, width: 132-148 urn. Prodorsum: Rostrum tripartite, lateral incisures narrow. Costulae short, continued backwards in a double row of granules (Fig. 7). Translamella present, concave medially. Lateral coltules strong, S-shaped, reaching to bothridium. Exobothridlal surface well pustulate. Ratio of prodorsal setae ro>in£ex>le. Some weak spots visible in iterbothiidial position. Sensillus radiate, its 5-6 branches gradually becoming longer posteriorly (Fig. 10). Notogaster: Elliptical, comparatively narrow. Ten pairs of short, but well-observable setae present, setae C2 nearly half as long as the others. Lyriflssures ia opening far from setae C2Coxisternal region: Pedotecta 1 well developed, pedotecta 2-3 absent. Discidium rounded laterally. Epimeral surface with weak polygonal reticulation. Apodemes and borders only partly observable, ap. 2 and bo. 2 weakly developed (Fig. 8). A strong marginal lath present on each side longitudinally, framing this region laterally. All setae strong, but short, setae 3c the longest of all. Setae lc arising on the inner side of the lateral laths (Fig. 9). Anogenital region: The main features of this region are well shown in WALLWORK's figure (p. 647: fig. 11). Examined material: Afr. 207: Nigeria, Bauchi State, Yankari game reserve, Wikld, old elephant (Loxodonta africana) dung, 10. VÜ. 1978. leg. A. DEMETER, 4 specimens; Afr. 211: Nigeria, Bauchi State, Yankari game reserve, Wikki, bark of tree, 22. VII. 1978. leg. A.DEMETER, 2 specimens; Afr. 214: Nigeria, Bauchi State, Yankari game reserve, Wikki, decaying fruit of baobab (Adansonla digitata), 22. VII. 1978. leg. A. DEMETER, 1 specimen. Congoppia extrema sp. n. Measurements. - Length: 244-256 um, width: 100-108 urn. Prodorsum: Rostrum rounded, slightly narrowed apically. Rostral setae long, thin, curved. No costulae or any other longitudinal chitinous laths, a weak transversal lath present basally. A strong chitinous lath directed brackwards from the bothridium also well observable (Fig. 16). Ratio of prodorsal setae: ro>ex>in>le. All thin and simple. Sensillus (Fig. 16) fusiform, bilaterally clliate, + Hungarian Natural History Museum, Budapest. ++ Museum d'Histoire Naturelle, Genève.
