FOLIA ENTOMOLOGICA HUNGARICA ROVARTANI KÖZLEMÉNYEK XLVII. 1-2 1986 p. 163-169 Elder larvae of five Aradus species (Heteroptera: Aradidae) By T. VÁSÁRHELYI (Received May 30, 1986) Abstract: Descriptions of larvae of the following five Aradus species are given: A. signaticornis Sahlberg, 1848, (L 4 , Lg), A. crenaticollis Sahlberg, 1848 (Lg), A. ko- marowii Jakovlev, 1885 (Lg, Lg), A. anisotomus (Puton, 1879) (Lg) and A. brenskei Reuter, 1884 (L^, Lg). Aradus hissaricus Kiritshenko, 1955 is synonymized with A. komarowii Jakovlev, 1885. With 22 figures. Most of the material treated here is deposited in the Zoological Institute of the Academy of Sciences of the USSR, Leningrad, some in the Zoological Department of the Hungarian Natural History Museum, Budapest. I express also here my sincere gratitude to Dr. I. M.KERZHNERfor his help in preparation of the paper. All the drawings were made with the help of drawing apparatus, with the following magnifications: Lg habituses X18, head, antenna, tip of abdomen and all parts of younger stages X54. Aradus signaticornis Sahlberg, 1848 Body (Fig. 1) blackish brown with pale markings. Antenna! joint III yellowish white, other joints blackish brown. Legs brown, basal half of tibia yellowish. Head relatively short. Antenniferous tubercle strong, slightly bent medially, pointed, with concolorous pointed lateral tooth. Preocular tubercle blunt, postocular tubercle represented by low protrusion. Antenna (Fig. 2) strong, joint II with slightly convex contour, thickening towards apex, III much shorter, but similar in trend of thickening, IV also with convex sides. Relative length of antennái joints I to IV as: 16:42:20:22. Rostrum almost reaching hind border of prosternum. Pronotum 3.6 times as wide as long, lateral margin almost straight, finely serrate, posterolateral angle strongly arcuate. Median carinae protruding. Lateral margin of laterotergites finely serrate, arcuate, posterolateral angles indistinct. Border between tergites 3-6 well visible. Tergite 8 strongly produced posteriorly, posterolaterally arcuate. Tip of abdomen on Fig. 3. Measurements: total length of body 4.05 mm, length of head 0.87 mm, width of head 1.02 mm, length of antenna 1.19 mm. Material examined: Leningrad, one freshly emerged or starved specimen, much curled due to drying (in fact. Fig. 1 is a reconstruction on the basis of 4 details). There is an exuvium of a L^ larva in the collection, which enables me to give drawings of antenna and abdomen (Figs 4-5). Coloration similar to those of Lg larva. The species runs in my key (Vásárhelyi, 1985) to point 37 (similarly as in the case of cre naticollis ) and differs from each species below this thesis in the characteristic shape and especially coloration of the antenna.
