S. Mahunka szerk.: Folia Entomologica Hungarica 47/1-2. (Budapest, 1986)
Description: Alar expanse 42-45 mm, length of fore wing 19-20 mm. Male: Head and thorax olive-grey with some dark scales on outer sides of palpi and some ochreous hairs on collar and thorax; abdomen somewhat lighter. Ground colour of fore wing olive-grey with more or less strong greenish slate-grey irroration, mostly in basal and subterminal areas. Antemedial line double, brownish-grey, its filling pale; orbicular a small round spot with lighter centre, outline of it obsolescent. Medial line a wide, diffuse reddish-brown stripe, joined to postmedial line at inner margin. Reniform bluish-grey, strong, outer side of outline whitish. Postmedial line strongly serrate, more or less visible, subterminal line sinuous, greyish with wide, dark shadow at inner side. Terminal line a row of dark archs and spots, basal line of cilia orange, outer part of it dark bluish-grey. Hind wing whitish with ochreous shine, marginal field and outer part of veins more or less covered with greyish-brown. Inner part of cilia yellowish, outer part whitish.Cellular lunule usually absent. Underside of wings whitish with glazy shine, costa of fore wing and cellular lunule dark brown. Costal and apical part of wings with some darker greyish irroration, transversal line of both wings consists of dark spots on veins, cellular lunule of hind wing pale but well visible. Female: similar in size to male, fore wing much unicolorously dark bluish-grey, pattern less visible. Hind wing brownish with diffuse transversal line, cellular lunule usually absent; dark irroration of underside much stronger. The new subspecies differs from the nominate race in a series of distinguishing characters as follows: the ground colour of the fore wing much darker, the reddish-ochreous shine being characteristic for the nominate race is absent, the hind wing and the underside of both wings with much intensive pattern. The configuration of the male genitalia of cretica (Figs 48-49) has somewhat stronger clavus, the harpe more arcuate, the costal protuberance less developed with less sclerotized basal lamina. In summary, the Ponto-Mediterranean "species" previously considered to be as " bischoffi" represents two distinct species: the true bischoffi occurs in Asia Minor and the westernmost known locality of it is the type-locality, Smyrna (W Turkey). The species inhabiting the southern part of the Balkans can be separated to two subspecies, the nominate culoti occurs in the Adriatic Coast, since the populations living in Crete are formed an isolated subspecies, culoti cretica . The populations distributed in the Peloponnes represent an intermediate form between the two taxa being much closely related to the nominate race than the Cretan one, only the olive-greyish ground colour of them resembles slightly to the latter race. Description of the female genitalia of Ammoconla reisseri The species Ammoconia reisseri Ronkay et Varga, 1984 was described on the basis of its external characters and its very unusual in the whole genus asymmetric male genitalia. The further studies pointed out the female genitalia and the structure of the last sternite of the female are also have specific features. The female genitalia of reisseri (Fig. 42) has short ovipositor and gonapophyses. Ostium bursae membranous with sclerotized margin, ductus bursae strongly sclerotized, elongate, inner margins strongly serrated, proximal end of it with a special, rounded appendage.
