STAUDINGER (1897) described a large, relatively dark, greenish specimen (female) from Beyruth with doubtful taxonomic rank as "apora" which was later correctly belonging to bischoffi (DRAUDT, in SEITZ suppl. 1937, BOURSIN 1940). The conspicuous male specimens from Dalmatia - present in the majority of the important collections - were surprisingly identified as bischoffi . while a similar specimen from Korfu was described by SCHAWERDA (1920) as "var. culoti ". This specimen is preserved in the Naturhistorisches Museum, Vienna. The investigations based on larger materials from Dalmatia, Greece, Crete and several parts of Turkey including the study of the genitalia of both sexes pointed out that the specimens of "bischoffi" and "culoti" are r epresenting two distinct species. In the following part the characterization of these two species and the description of a new subspecies of culoti are given. Polymixis bischoffi (Herrich-Schäffer, 1848) (Plate: 12) Lectotype: female, "Smyrna, coll. E. FRJVALDSZKY', "Frlv. 1306", Slide No. 1516 RONKAY, deposited in coll. HNHM, Budapest. The main distinctive external characters of bischoffi are as follows: larger size, broader shape of wings, more robust body, ground colour of fore wing greenish without or only a very slight pastel-like ochreous-reddish shade. Hind wing with much stronger cellular lunule, transversal line and darker margin. Male genitalia (Figs 50-51): uncus long and slender, tegumen high, penicular lobes wide, fultura inferior subtriangular, vinculum strong, V-shaped. Valvae large, strong and robust, apicomedially dilated. Sacculus large with very strongly sclerotized upper margin. Clavus very large, plicate, recurved into the ventral side. Harpe flattened, strongly arcuate. Ampulla absent, costal protuberance small with finger-like tip. Costal margin broken rectangularly near its middle, apex of valvae pointed, corona slightly developed. Aedoeagus long and strong with heavily sclerotized distal laminae. Vesica relatively simple without cornuti, with a rounded basal diverticulum. Female genitalia (Fig. 53): ovipositor short and wide, gonapophyses short, especially in case of proximal pair. Ostium bursae short and wide, strongly sclerotized, ductus bursae heavily sclerotized, relatively long and slightly twisted, with long and strong plicae on dorsal surface. Bursa copulatrix long and relatively narrow, with two long, ribbon-like signa. Distribution: Asia Minor Polymixis culoti (Schawerda, 1920) bona sp., stat. n. (Plate: 13) Holotype: male, "Corfu, X.10, v. culoti Schaw., Type", deposited in coll. NHM Vienna. Because of the brief characterization of this taxon a short redescription is needed. Head and thorax pale ochraceous, ground colour of fore wing pale ochraceous with a very fine reddish-greyish shade. Elements of pattern diffuse or obsolescent, fine olive-greyish with some reddish irroration mostly in medial and subterminal fields. Hing wing whitish with some ochreous shine, cellular lunule a pale shadow, outer part of veins covered by brownish-grey. Cilia whitish. Underside pale white-ochraceous, darker pattern reduced to the cellular lunules and some dark spots on place of postmedial line of fore wing. Male genitalia (Figs 46-47): the configuration of the male genitalia Is similar to that of the bischoffi, the distinctive features are as follows: valvae smaller, less robust, clavus much si •••.1er, more regular. Harpe less strong and arcuate, costal protuberance much larger and stronger, curvfcd and flattened at the tip. Aedoagus somewhat smaller, vesica shorter, basal diverticulum smaller. Female genitalia is generally similar to that of the bischoffi. but the ductus bursae shorter and not twisted, plicae of both surfaces less sclerotized. Gonapophyses more fine, slender. Distribution: Dalmatia, Corfu, Central and South Greece; the populations occurring in the southern part of the Balkans are somewhat darker and more olive-greyish, as the typical specimens from the coast of the Adriatic Range. Polymixis culoti cretica ssp. n. (Plate: 14) Holotype: male, "Creta orient., 950 m, Psychro, 15.DC. 1966, coll. Reisser", deposited in coll. Landesmuseum für Naturkunde, Karlsruhe. Paratypes: 74 Ó" and C; from Crete from several localities (Psychro, Pevkos, Topolia, Pyrgos, Assîtes, Genni Gavé, Vrysses, Ano Archanes,
