Overlapping variability in the shape of the valvae: (Figs 6-17) - distal part of valvae in syriaca can be more or less spatulated, too - the spatulated form of the distal part of valvae in the Hungarian specimens is only a geographical extrem of a more or less continuous range of variation (? elinal) - the features of the balcanic form considered to be an intermediate status between the extremes. The small valval protuberance (mentioned in the description of decipulae by KOVÁCS as pulvillus and located at the place of ampulla in other related CucuUiinae genera) varies considerably both in its form and size. The spine-like saccular processus is longer and slender in case of syriaca . These two features seem also an overlapping range of variation. The only well differentiating character is the size of the cornutus in the distal end of the vesica. It is considerably larger in case of syriaca than the other cornuti and this cornutus belongs into the variation range of the other cornuti in case of decipulae . (The "reduction" in the number of the cornuti can be observed as a parallel trend in both syriaca and decipulae but one can suppose that some cornuti can be lost during copulation since sometimes these cornuti can be found in the bursa copulatrix of the females) (Figs 18-25). In summary, by our opinion, syriaca and decipulae are geographically and morphologically well defined subspecies of one and the same species with considerable range of distribution and variation of external and genitalic characteristics, in which the only feature of distinguishing value is the size of the distal cornutus of the vesica in which no overlapping in variations could be observed.
