FOLIA ENTOMOLOGICA HUNGARICA ROVARTANI KÖZLEMÉNYEK XLVII. 1-2 1986 p. 149-161 New taxonomic and Zoogeographie data for some groups of Palaearctic CucuUiinae (Lepidoptera: Noctuidae) I. By L. RONKAY and Z. VARGA (Received June 30, 1986) Abstract: The geographic variability of some Cuculliine taxa is discussed. New status is given to Polymixis culoti (Schawerda, 1920), bona species, and some new subspecies are described as follows: Dasypolia templi koenigi ssp.n., Dichonia aeruginea topali ssp. n., Polymixis manisadjiani vardikiani ssp.n., P. culoti cretica ssp. n. The female genitalia of Ammoconia reisseri Ronkay et Varga 1984, is described and illustrated for the first time. Dasypolia templi koenigi ssp.n. (Plate: 1) Holotype: male, "Herkulesi. /iirdo/, Aszner, 914.XI. 5" (= Baile Herculane, Banat, Romania). Paratypes: 3 O , 1 Q from same locality and data; 1 Ó" from same locality, 910.IX. 21, leg. KALDOR; 1 6" from same locality, without the time of collecting, leg KÁLDOR. Slide Nos 1254, 1275, 1276 RONKAY (males). The types are deposited in the collection of the Hungarian Natural History Museum (HNHM). Description: Alar expanse 45-49 mm, length of fore wing 20-23 mm. Head and thorax dark chestnut-brown with some darker brown scales on labial palp and frons, thorax with pale greyish irroration. Abdomen more brownish. Fore wing chestnut-brown with a greyish shade and a more or less strong yellowish sheen. Wing pattern diffuse or obsolescent, transversal lines darker brown. Antemedial line sinuous, postmedial serrated, subterminal ochreous with darker shadows on both sides, terminal line yellowish, defined by a fine brown line at inner side. Orbicular usually absent or a very small ochreous spot, reniform a pale ochreous shadow with a more or less visible brownish centre. Cilia brownish with ochreous basal line and some darker scales. Hind wing brown with some greyish and rosy-ochreous shine. Cellular lunule and transversal line darker, wide and diffuse, veins covered with darker brown scales. Cilia reddish-brown, basal line dark brown. Underside dark ochreous brown, cellular lunules well-discernible, transversal lines wide, diffuse. Specific differences and taxonomic position: The general picture of the new subspecies is similar to that of the nearest Mediterranean isolates ( calabrolucana Berio, 1983; vecchimontium Ronkay et Varga, 1985) of templi (Thunberg, 1792). These subspecies differ from the nominate race and ssp. alpina Rogenhofer. 1867, by their dark brownish basic colour, much more obsolete wing pattern and darker hind wing. The ssp. koenigi differs from the closely related race, ssp. vecchimontium, by its smaller size, less dark and more yellowish ground colour of wings and less wide and diffuse transversal lines. The features of the male genitalia are similar to those of the
