FOLIA ENTOMOLOGICA HUNGARICA ROVARTANI KÖZLEMÉNYEK XL VI. 1 1985 p. 205-214 Elder larvae of ten Aradus species (Heteroptera : Aradidae) By T. VÁSÁRHELYI (Received December 12, 1984) Abstract: Descriptions of larvae of the following ten Aradus species are given: A. versi color Herrich-Schäffer, 1835, (Lg-Lg), A. depressus (Fabricius, 1794), (L^-Lg), A.truncatus Fieber, 1861, (L g ), A. distinctus Fieber, 1861, (L 4-L 5 ), A. minis Bergroth, 1894 (L 4-L 5 ), A. serbicus Horváth, 1888, (L 4-L 5 ), A. bimaculatus Reuter, 1872 (L 3 ~L 5 ), A. kuthyi Horváth, 1899, (L 4-L 5 ), A. lugubris Fallén, 1807, (Lg), and A. erosus Fallén 1807 (L c ). With 39 figures. 5 Through the kindness of several colleagues and by lucky collectings further data can be added to the knowledge of the postembrionat development of flat bugs by describing elder larvae of Aradus species. Though the larvae of A. depressus were treated by JORDAN (1932), for comparative reasons to give a short description seems to be useful. I would like to express here also my acknowledgements to the following persons for provoding material, thereby making my investigations possible: A. ALBRECHT (Helsinki), I. CSEH (Budapest), E. HEISS (Innsbruck), A. JANSSON (Helsinki), A. KALTENBACH (Wien). In the descriptions below there will be no notice on the following common features (except if there is unusual appearance in a given species): length of wing pads in the different larval instars and fundament of venation; reversed U shaped smooth depression lateral to median carinae on pronotum (sometimes inconspicuous); acute, lateral tooth on the antenniferous tubercles; lack of white tubercles characteristic of larvae of species belonging to the betulae-group only on legs and antenna; 2:1:1: pattern of dorsal and 1:2:1 of ventral apodemal impressions on tergites/ventrites 3-7; position of scent gland openings (figured); position of spiracles, ventral for spiracles 2-7, lateral for 8; four-segmented rostrum; fused femur and trochanter on fore and middle legs; lack of pulvillus on claws; appearance of fundaments of external genitalia in the fifth instar; at least medially fused abdominal tergites 3-6. Relative length of antennái joints is given in percentage of total length of antenna. Measurements were taken with ocular micrometer. Drawings were made with drawing apparatus with two different magnifications, X 14 for habituses and X 28 for antennae and Fig. 28. Fig. 37 was made free hand with transparent light. In Table 1 average and extreme values of different measurements are given even when two specimens were at hand. Some specimens were dried to such an extent that they had to be boiled in water before examination ( A. depressus L^, A.distinctus L 4 and A. lugubris Lg). Width of abdomen was not measured on strongly curled specimens.
