Comment: These syntypes were found under specimens determined by Duda as " D. montium" . No specimens were labelled " xanthopyga" even if we might suppose that the specimens not explicitly labelled " atropyga" may be syntypes of D. xanthopyga . Drosophila atropyga is considered to be a synonym of Drosophila kikkawai Burla. Regarding the close resemblance of the species of the montium subgroup on the one hand and the polymorphism observed in D. kikkawai on the other hand, the status of DUDA' s "varieties" atropyga and xanthopyga requires further study. australica Duda, 1923 ( Drosophila) : Annls hist.-nat.
