Distribution: western Palaearctic Region. New to the fauna of Hungary, where it occurs in hilly to mountain localities. Localities - II/l: 1 g + 2 cf : Budapest, Hűvösvölgy. 3 if : F ót. 1 o : Gyulafirátót, Kispapod. 1 6 : Hárskút, Esztergáli völgy. 1 o. ; Tihany. 1 € : Zirc, Arborétum. - II/2: 1 g : Csornád,Somlyó-hegy. - VT/l: 1 6 : Pécs, Szuadó-völgy (Mecsek Mts.). - Transylvania (Romania). 111/4: 1 6 : Rév, Zichy barlang környéke (= Vadul Crisulul). - Hl/6: 1 o_ : Déva (= Déva). Apanteles callidus (Haliday, 1834) (= majális Wesmael, 1837) - Among the species of the vit- ripennis-group it is characterized by its elongated mesosoma, i.e. in lateral view 1.6-1.65/-1 .7/ times longer than high. In lateral view hypopygium pointed and surpassing end of metasoma. Pterostigma long, 2.9-3.5, usually 3-3.2 times, as long as wide, issuing radial vein clearly distally from its middle. D distinctly one-fourth wider than high. Legs usually vivid yellow, frequently with variable dark pattern on coxae and hind femur. Punctation of hind coxa, mesonotum and mesopleuron variable in strength. - Distribution: a European species occurring as far eastwards as Armenia and Georgia in the USSR. In Hungary a rare species. Localities - 1/1: 1 $ : Aranyosgadány, láprét (= marshy meadow), talajcsapda (= pit fall). n/1: 1 o : Zirc, Arborétum. - VI and VIII. Apanteles compresslventris Muesebeck, 1921 - Within the vitripennlsgroup this species is easy to recognize by Its large and pointed hypopygium, In lateral view conspicuously surpassing end of metasoma, and by its laterally compressed metasoma. First tergite strongly narrowing posteriorly. Hind coxa infuscate to blackish, Its apical half to third yellow(ish). - Distribution: a Hoi arctic species. In Hungary very frequent. Apanteles eugeni Papp, 1972 Apanteles eugeni Papp, 1972, Annls hlst.-nat. Mus. natn. hung. 64: 336, 0., locus typicus: Kőrishegy, Fenyőfő, Hungary. - Holotype in the Hungarian Natural History Museum, Budapest; Hym. Typ. No. 2001. Apanteles fausta Nixon, 1973, Bull .ent.Res. 63: 174 (in key) and 177 (description), o_ , locus typicus: Liscombe Peak, Soulsbury, Bucks, England; abbreviated synonymization in PAPP 1983a: 260). - Holotype in the British Museum (Nat.Hist.), London. Apanteles magnicoxls Jakimavicius, 1972, Zool.Zhurn. 5: 307, o_ , locus typicus: Panevezhskiy rayon, Lithuania (USSR) (in Russian); abbreviated synonymization in PAPP 1983a: 260). - Holotype in the Zoological Institute, Academy of Sciences, Leningrad. Together with A. lateralis (Hallday) they differ from all other species of the vitripennisgroup by their unusually long ovipositor sheath, i.e. in lateral view about length of hind basitarsus and surpassing end of metasoma (ovipositor sheath of the other species usually as long as half to third hind basitarsus). The two species are very similar to each other, however, may be distinguished by the following features: A. eugeni Papp 1. Outer surface of hind coxa smooth or with obsolescent punctation. 2. Hypopygium small and truncate, in lateral view ending before end of metasoma. 3. First tergite more attenuating posteriorly, second tergite distinctly shorter than third tergite. A. lateralis (Hal.) 1. Outer surface of hind coxa roughly and densely punctate. 2. Hypopygium conspicuously large and pointed, in lateral view surpassing end of metasoma. 3. First tergite less attenuating posteriorly; second tergite slightly shorter than third tergite.
