and the shape of the elytra are different, in this last character it is similar to C . apterus Bernh. (from the Philippines), but the puncturation is very much finer than in that species. - Black, except palpi, antennae and legs which are reddish-brown, the last six segments of the antennae are paler. Head longer than broad (3.5:3.0), It is of typical generic shape, with a deep lateral sulcus for the reception of the long first segment of the antennae which are strongly geniculate. The lower part is then laterally broader and parallel-sided in front of the eyes, the upper part distinctly converging to the front, -eyes convex, the temples forming a notch Immediately behind them; labrum with a central emarginatlon and slightly sinuate, two impressed lines from the Inner margin of the insertion of the antennae Join a little before the middle to form a long triangle and continue as one Impressed line to the posterior margin; the triangle is weakly coriaceous, the other parts are finely reticulate; Immediately behind the eyes is a raised border which is strongly arcuate in the centre and is shining and has a few very large punctures. There are a few small tubercles more so between the eyes which each has a long bristle, and there are several long porrect bristles from the temples. Antennae with a very long first segment, segments two to seven longer than broad, but each shorter than the previous, the last four segments small, moniliform. Pronotum longer than broad (4.0:3.25), broadest at anterior third where there is a little swelling or blunt projection from the contour of the lateral margin, it then converges to the posterior margin and Is obliquely rounded to the "neck" where there are four long erect bristles; very densely and finely punctured; on either side of the middle Is a shining raised line which broadens at the posterior and anterior margins, where they join. Towards the anterior margin are two much shorter much closer impunctate raised Unes in the centre; between these pronotal Unes it is flat; lateral margins finely bordered. Elytra longer than broad (4.0:2.5) at shoulders, broader at posterior margin, very densely and finely punctured; postero-external corners thickened Into almost a blunt lamella, suturai margin strongly raised. Scutellum shining, impunctate. Abdomen very shining, strongly, but not densely punctured, with rather long setae; paratergites broad, making the abdomen broader than the elytra, anal styles long and pointed. Legs typical of the genus, sparingly pubescent. Aedeagus fig. 22. - Length 6 mm. Lathrobium sepikense sp. n. Compared with L. mutator Fauv. (from Western Australia) this species has the eyes larger, denser and stronger puncturation of the elytra, the punctures being more distinctly striate.-Black, antennae and legs reddish-yellow, apex of abdomen brownish. Head transverse (2.5:2.0) strongly but not densely punctured, vertex impunctate; eyes large moderately convex, their longitudinal diameter almost twice the length of the temples, which are parallel-sided with posterior corners right-angled; temples with a number of slender bristles; antennae with segments decreasing in length from the fourth, moniliform, setose. Pronotum slightly longer than broad (2.75:2.5), parallel sided, strongly punctured but leaving a broad impunctate median band which is bordered by a dense row of punctures; with short setae. Elytra a little longer than broad (3.5:3.0), parallel-sided, shin<ng, strlate-punctate, with fine short setae. Abdomen very finely punctured and pubescent, with extremely fine microsculpture, narrowing slightly to the apex. Legs setose. Aedeagus figs 2324. - Length 5 mm. Holotype d", Yentchan, main River, Seplk, 18.111.1965, aquatic vegetation by a swampy creek; paratype (1 ex) same data; paratypes (3 ex) Blackwater River, Seplk, vi. 1974. This species bears a strong resemblance to the Palearctlc species L. termlnatum Grav.. In having a yellowish spot at the postero-external corners of the elytra except that tt is a little more extensive forming an upright triangle; it also differs In having the head, pronotum and elytra more
