only ln a short deepening above clypeus, ocelli in an acute angle, posterior ocelli separated from each other by two-thirds the distance between an ocellus and an eye, POLrOOL = 4:6, a distinct groove only before fore ocellus; eyes small and round, as long as broad (10), separated from mandibles by half, as far as their length (5); anterior margin of clypeus strongly semicircularly protruding, surface raised into a sharp longitudinal keel medially; antennae slender, scape three times as long as broad, joints 2-8 twice as long as broad (fig. 12), 2 nearly as long as scape, 3-8 of the same length and twice longer than broad, 2-4 distinctly narrower basally than apically, length (and breadth) relations of antennái Joints 1-8 - 9(3): 8(4): 6(3): 6(3): 6(3): 6(3): 6(3): 6(3). Pronotum broader in front than long medially (without collar) (18 : 15), lateral side behind obtuse corners parallel, from the middle strongly diverging towards tegulae, posterior margin moderately emarginated, longitudinal sulcus narrow and deep only basally, surface granulated with scattered shallow but slightly larger punctures posteriorly (fig. 14) than behind ocelli. Mesonotum, scutellum shagreened, shining, parapsidal furrow hardly distinct, notaulices sharply margined (fig. 11), longitudinal furrow, as well as basal furrow on scutellum absent. Propodeum conspicuously convex, lateral margin lying remarkably deeper than central carina, as long medially as half diameter transversally before spines (12) (fig, 11), lateral sides parallel, all carinae and areas developed, transversal diameter of central and sublateral areas = 5:5 (viewed in the middle), lateral spine very short, only one-third as long as length of propodeum (4 : 12). Episternum with larger and deeper punctures just below tegulae and on ventral side, with a transversal furrow medially, surface granulated a round furrow. Tergite 1 smooth, polished without punctures, tergite 2 shagreened-alutaceous on Its one-quarter part, smooth polished with some scattered and very fine punctures up to posterior margin, segments 3-6 alutaceous on their upper and lower parts, sternite 2 smooth, polished and with very fine punctures, o*. - Unknown. Holotype <j> : "Sri Lanka: Ham.Dist. Palatupana tank 30-50 ft., on or In leaf litter 24-26-VHI1980", "K.V. KROMBEIN, P.B. KARUNARATNE, T. WIJESINHE, L. JAYAWICKREMA, L.WEERATUNGE" (Washington USNM Typ. No. 101151). This species resembles M. parvulus (Kieffer, 1906) (published from the Mediterranean region: Sicily and from the Ethiopian territory: East Africa) but differs chiefly in the following characters: pronotum not black, central area not broader than sublateral one, half breadth of propodeum not shorter than its length, parapsidal furrow not well developed, antennái joint 2 not as long as joint 3, head and pronotum not distinctly punctured. Mesonotum, scutellum sparsely punctured and shagreened, only weakly shining. Posterior part of mesonotum with a more or less small deepening (figs 19, 26). Lateral spine of propodeum mostly short, rarely longer than two-thirds length of propodeum medially. Transversal groove of mesopleura below tegulae sometimes only partly developed ( <j> <?). Wings fully developed or shortened sometimes (o). Antenna at most hardly thickened medially (o_) and with short dense proclinate hairs, joints 2-3 of quite different lengths (<?, fig. 16).
