Zoological collecting trips in Armenia, IV. Bv O. MERKL and L. RONKAY (Received November 16, 1982) Abstract: A report on the collecting trip to Armenian SSR (USSR) in 1982 together with the list of collecting localities is given. Within the framework of an agreement between the Armenian Academy of Sciences and the Hungarian Academy of Sciences, we had the opportunity to visit the Armenian SSR (USSR) between 8 September and 6 October, 1982. Our host was the Institute of Zoology of the Armenian Academy of Sciences (Yerevan). The main purpose of our one-month trip was to collect zoological material, in the first place beetles and butterflies in the different localities of Armenia. A jeep (UAZ) of the Institute was at our disposal by which _ the following regions were visited: the Ararat Valley (Yerevan, Djrvezh, Echmiadzin), the valley of River Azat (Garni, Gokht-Gueghard), the Aragats Mountains (Antarut, Karashamb and other localities), Dilizhan, Idzhevan, Lake Sevan and Tsakhkadzor. Besides the usual collecting methods, nocturnal collecting at light (with mixed light lamp), sifting and collecting of water beetles deserve special mention. Unfortunately, during our trip the vegetation and the soil was already dry in accordance with the climate of Armenia, thus, the insects did not occur in large numbers; the autumn is a less favourable season for collecting insects in these regions. In spite of this fact several very interesting species both of Coleoptera and Lepidoptera have been collected. Samples of water plankton as well as samples of moss and soil have also been gathered. Herewith we should like to express our cordial thanks to the collaborators of the Zoological Institute of the Armenian Academy of Sciences, first of all to Dr. A.Y. TERTERIAN for organizing the collecting trips and the cultural programmes. Our thanks are also due to the DirectorGeneral of the Hungarian Natural History Museum, the Director of the Zoological Department there and the authorities of the Armenian and the Hungarian Academy of Sciences for the opportunity to make collectings in the Armenian SSR.
