To the knowledge of Nebria Latr. (Coleoptera, Carabidae) from the Caucasus and Anatolia. Subgenus Alpaeus Bon. By V. G. SHILENKOV (Received June 7, 1982) Abstract: Upon the investigation of the types and extensive material from numerous museums and private collections, taxonomic review of Nebria (subgenus alpaeus Bon.) from the Caucasus, Anatolia and partly from Iran is given. Twenty-eight species and subspecies are considered, divided into 6 groups. Identification keys to the groups, species and subspecies are given. Four species and five subspecies described as new, 10 species are reduced to synonymy, the status of one species is reduced to subspecific rank. The mountain systems of the Caucasus and Anatolia are inhabited by a very rich and endemic fauna of Nebria . Unfortunately, many taxonomical problems of this group have been not solved to the present time. In the very useful work of BÂNNINGER (1925) some intricate questions were elucidated, but he had not known many types of the Caucasian Nebria , therefore his opinions were not always valid. The publication of KIRSHENBLAT (1932) was especially devoted to the Caucasian Nebria . It contains helpful data on distribution, but his identification of many of the species is not precise and his key is absolutely unfit for practical use. A. JEDLIŐKA (1965) in his work described many species, all of them (except one) are synonyms, and his identification key is rather ambiguous. Recently a monograph was published on Armenian Carabidae (IABLOKOFFKHNZORIAN, 1976), but for this territory only 5 species of Nebria were recorded (one of them being described below). As for Anatolia, only the original descriptions of some species from this country are known. Thus in the literature there are no sufficient data for precise identification of Nebria from the Caucasus and Anatolia. For the present study almost all types of MOTSCHULSKY, MÉNÉTRIES, CHAUDOIR, REITTER, LUTSHNIK and JEDLICKA were investigated, and in this way I have been able to define more precisely the taxonomical position of many species. This article is concerned only with the so-called subgenus Alpaeus . the species of them being characterised by the pubescent upper surface of the tarsi. I think this subgenus is heterogeneous, and many groups which I establish here, have the rank of valid subgenera. This issue will be decided in the future. As for the subgenus Eunebria Jean., the representatives of them will be discussed in a separate publication. I would like here to express my thanks to Dr. O. L. KR YZHANOVSKIJ and Dr. Z. KASZAB for their kind permission to investigate the collections of Zoological Institute in Leningrad and Hungarian Natural History Museum in Budapest, respectively, to Dr. A.I. SHATALKIN, who
