FOLIA ENTOMOLOGICA HUNGARICA ROVARTANI KÖZLEMÉNYEK XLIII. 1. 1982 p. 229-233 On the larval development of Aradus krueperi Reuter (Heteroptera: Aradidae) By T. VÁSÁRHELYI (Received March 1, 1982) Abstract: Description of the last three Instars of Aradus krueperi Reuter, 1884, with remarks on larval growth. Some changing body parts and rudiments of external genitalia of instar V are investigated with scanning electron microscope. Aradua krueperi Reuter, 1884 was known from only one locality (Pápa) in Hungary, the specimens were collected at the end of the last century. Recently a number of specimens were collected on a left In foot of a cut roadside oak attacked by tinder fungus, some 30 km from the former locality (Olaszfalu, 2.n. 1982. leg. Vásárhelyi). The material collected by taking a part of the bark only consists of 3 adult females, 11 adult males, 64 fifth instar, 111 fourth instar and 11 third instar larvae, respectively. Measurement data of 10 specimens of instars HI, IV, V male, V female and adult male, and of 3 adult females were taken, their mean is given in Table I. Some specimens were investigated with SEM too. Dry untreated specimens were coated with C and Au. Pictures were made with a JEOL JSM 35 scanning electron microscope at an accelerating voltage 8 kV. Description of the instars Third instar: Oval, flattened (Figs 1, 9, 12, 17, 21, 27). Head with protruding antenniferous tubercles, with acute tooth laterally. Praeocular tubercles present, small. Relative length of antennái joints I to IV as: 30:59:40:69. No white tubercles present on antennae and legs. Pronotum widening posteriorly, with four carinae. Mesonotum only with signs of wing pads. Metanotum widening posterorly. Lateral margin of thorax finely serrate. Legs short, strong. Abdominal tergiteB I and II distinct, III-VI fused medially, bearing the opening of the abdominal scent glands. No channel or distinct evaporative area present. Glabrous areas with 2:1:1 pattern. Tergites VIH and IX far not reaching tip of anal tube. Dorsal side densely covered with setigerous tubercles. Rostrum reaching middle of mesonotum. Trochanter and femur distinct. Median opaque areas on abdominal sterna wide, flat. Sternites with 1:2:1 pattern of glabrous areas. Fourth instar: Similar to inatar III with the following differences (Figs 2, 10, 13, 18, 20, 28, 30). Head with more acute appendices, postocular tubercle reaching posteriorly, definite. Relative length of antennái joints I to IV as: 40:102:59:81. White tubercles on antennae and legs observable. Pronotum strongerly widening posteriorly, signs of lateral carinae present. Hind margin slightly convex. Mesonotum with developed wing pads not reaching hind border of metanotum, medially with rudiment of scutellum. Metathoracal wing pads small. Abdomen larger when compared to head and thorax, with lighter or white setigerous tubercles. Segment VIII reaching, IX not
