S. Mahunka szerk.: Folia Entomologica Hungarica 33/2. (Budapest, 1980)
Aphodius (Ammoecius) tonderae sp. n. Moderate shiny, elytra dull. Unicoloured black, only mouth parts, antennae and legs reddish brown . Surface bald . Clypeus rather deeply emarginated, both sides of emargination rounded, genae strongly produced behind eyes. Front with an obtuse tubercle. Transversal carina between front and apical margin long, but not reaching eyes. Down bent part of clypeus between transversal carina and apical margin strongly and very densely, almost wrinkled-punctate, punctation behind finer. Pronotum much broader than long, on posterior angles broadest, sides lightly curved, anterior angles scarcely produced, and as hind angles, rounded. All four margins bordered, strongest on basis. Surface densely punctate, punctures in middle of disc somewhat smaller, sparser than on sides. Scutellum triangular. Elytra strongly convex, longer than together broad (about 3:2.3), not dilated to apex, sides lightly curved. Elytral striae very fine, limited with very fine carinulae, almost undistinctly punctete. Primary intervals broad, equally high, convex, finely reticulated and rather densely covered with fine punctures. Anterior tibiae tridentate, behind basal tooth serrate. Transversal carinae of hind tibiae strong, apical bristles short, dense. Hind basitarsi much longer than upper thorn of hind tibiae and somewhat longer than following three joints together. Length: 5-6 mm. - Examined material 3 specimens. Types: Holotype and 2 paratypes: South Africa, Heidelberg, CP, X.1978, A.J.Prins. Holotype is deposited in the Hungarian Natural History Museum, Budapest, one paratype in the collection of Miss H. Tonder and another one in the Transvaal Museum (Pretoria). Named in honour of my dear colleague Miss H. TONDER in Pretoria. The biggest among the three species with primary and secondary intervals, for A . sparsepunc- tatus Petrovitz and A . oreotragi m. are only 4-5 mm long. In the first the hind angles of pronotum are distinctly emarginated, in the second the upper thorn of hind tibiae almost as long as hind basitarsi . Aphodius (Pharaphodlus) chausibensis sp. n. Dark reddish brown, vertex and disc of pronotum black, shiny. Surface bald. Clypeus weakly emarginated, both sides of emargination rounded. Genae strongly produced behind eyes. Frontal suture indistinct, without tubercle, but with a blunt knob on clypeus. Surface rather densely covered with rather big punctures, only knob smooth. Pronotum broader than long, sides weakly curved, apical and basal margin without border. Anterior angles produced, obtusely angulated, hind angles lightly truncated. Surface with a fine punctation mixed with sparse much bigger punctures. Sides of elytra lightly curved, broadest about in the middle. Elytral striae deeply furrowed, punctures of striae shallow, but with somewhat notched intervals. Striae on apex somewhat deeper furrowed, not connected. Intervals also on disc convex with numerous fine punctures. Anterior tibiae with three teeth, basal tooth mostly very small. Apical bristles of hind tibiae equal, short, in the middle at most with 1-2 somewhat longer bristles. Hind basitarsi as long as or somewhat longer than upper thorn of hind tibiae and about as long as following three joints together. Length: 4.5-5 mm. - Examined material 34 specimens. Types: Holotype and also paratypes: SWA, Khomashochl, Farm Chausib, 23 20'S-16 05'E, Ground traps with faeces bait 48 day, 19.1.1975, E-Y Nr. 553, leg. Endrődy-Younga. Paratypes also: with same data, but 10.3.1975, ground trap 176 days, E-Y Nr. 731. The new species is closely related to A . bechuanus Petrovitz, but in this species the hind angles of pronotum are rounded, surface rather densely punctate, apical bristles of hind tibiae unequal, the upper thorn is somewhat longer than hind basitarsi, etc. Aphodius, Longaphodius new group Body very long (about 5.5 mm long, breadth 2 mm). Clypeus deeply emarginated, genae strongly produced behind eyes. Head and pronotum strongly punctate and sparsely covered with
