, 26. VII. 1978. , imago: 16.111,1979. (o_). - It is well-known among lepidopterists that the majority of Cuculiia larvae are parasitized. There are, however, two behavioural,patterns: larvae killed off before pupation or the pupation of the parasite after the caterpillar itself has pupated (therefore within the cocoon). In the case of the Verbascum-group (excepting C. prenanthis B. ), we found that the wasp develops after pupation and emerges by the next spring, having overwintered in the cocoon. As for the Artemisia and Aster-groups, and for C. prenanthis B. , the developing wasps inhibit the pupation of their hosts, they pupate in the free, and may even emerge in the same year. We have also observed that injuries suffered by the cocoon invariably concur with th,e desiccation of the pupa, despite even the greatest care. A half-way result occurred in two cases only: a C. lychnitis Rmbr. and a C. xeranthemi Hbn. specimen emerged from their pupae partially free of their cocoons, but their wings failed to expand.
