BALOGH (Received December 10, 1979) Abstract: Study of Attidae resulted in the description of a new genus and species: Leptathamas paradoxus gen. et sp.n. During the study of the New Guineán Attidae I have found a lot of new taxa. Here I give the description of a new genus and species. Leptathamas gen. nov. Retromargin of chelicerae with a bicuspid tooth. Sternum broadly truncate frontally, there broader than base of labium. Eyes infour rows: 2-2-2-2. Row ALE as long as row AME, PME shorter than ALE, PLE somewhat longer than AME. Posterior declivity of céphalothorax very steep, concave, dorsally with tubercles. Patella + tibiaIV longer than patella + tibia III. Length of legs: 1423. Type species: Leptathamas paradoxus sp.n. There is no other fissidentat genus with this combination of characters. It can be related to the genus Athamas O. P. Cambridge, 1877. Leptathamas paradoxus sp.n. Male unknown. Female: Céphalothorax: length 1.9 mm. Fissidentate carinula of chelicera very low, tooth on its inner end acute, outer tooth hardly projecting. Upper margin of chelicera with 4-5 minute, tuberculiform teeth, hidden in pubescence of chelicera. Eye quadrangle much longer than wide, and longer than thoracic part. Row PME nearer to row AME than to row PLE. ALE and PLE on a flat black tubercle; PME in field of ALE. In a frontal view, frons below AME lower than radius of AME. Rows AME not meeting medially. In lateral view, céphalothorax slightly elevated posteriorad, posterior declivity concave; protruding rosal part with scattered tubercles covered with dense, proclinate hairs. Céphalothorax with sparse minute foveolae or dots. Chaetotaxy of legs: tibia I ventral: 2.2.2; metatarsus I ventral: 2.2; femur II dorsal: 1; tibia II ventral; 1.2.2; metatarsus II ventral: 2.2; femur III dorsal: 1; femur IV dorsal: 1.
