The distribution of mining flies of the genus Cerodontha Rond. Abstract: A list of 38 species of the genus Cerodontha from Hungary is given, together with their distribution, known host plant and time of flight. 20 species are new to Hungary. 2 species are new to science: Cerodontha (Poemyza) pappi and_C. (Poemyza) hungarica. The object of this paper is to publish new information on the mining flies of the genus Cerodontha , which has come to light through examination of the coHection of the Hungarian Natural History Museum, Budapest. The examined material consists of 1100 specimens. The known fauna of this genus from Hungary comprises 16 species (HENDEL 19311936; NOWAKOWSKI 1962, 1967, 1972, 1973). The present material includes 38 species, of which 2 are new to science. Among the previously recorded species only Cerodontha (Poemy za) kerteszi (Hendel) was not represented. Of course, the present list of species is not complete and further investigation is needed. In some cases the identification was difficult because data on the biology of the collected specimens was lacking. Very often these data prove to be more helpful in identification than morphological features. In the present list every species is supplied with information on distribution, host plant, time of flight and number of specimens examined. I wish to thank Dr. L. PAPP for the loan of the material.
