Lengths of setae of opisthonotum and distances between setae of singular rows in urn as follows: SI 25 Zl 18 1 1 18 52 55 55 S2 37 Z2 25 12 25 55 40 45 S3 48 Z3 35 I 3 - 35 40 40 25 S4 50 Z4 50 14 37 55 2 5 Z5 37 I 5 40 65 16 60 Pores: Pore Pol situated quite obliquely anteriorad to outside of insertion of seta Zl. Pore Po2 under line connecting setae S2-Z3. Pore Po3 on line connecting setae 15 and Z4. Sculpture. Entire podonotum with and irregular tile-like sculpture. Opisthonotum with tile-like sculpture in upper angles, reticulated fronto medially. This sculpture reaching to seta S2. Remaining part of opisthonotum with a distinct protuberance lying between setae 14 and dorsal cavities. Dorsal cavities elongated, well sclerotized with axes parallel to body axis. Ventral side. Chaetotaxy and shape of pertiremal shield typical of Zercon C.L.Koch, 1836. Anterior margin of ventro-anal shield with four setae. Adgenital shields are present. Systematic position: This species rather resembles Zercon encarpatus Athias-Henriot, 1961 from which it differs by the following features: Zercon salebrosus sp. n. 1. Pore Po3 on line connecting setae Z415. 2. Seta 12 reaching as fas as half the distance to I 3. 3. Dorsal cavities elongated, well sclerotized with axes parallel to body axis. Z. encarpatus Athias-Henriot, 1961 1. Pore Po3 on line connecting setae Z414. 2. Seta 12 reaching to insertion of seta 13. 3. Dorsal cavities round lobed frontally, axes of outer dorsal cavities strikingly oblique. sample. Material examined: Holotype: (q): No. 30-2; 4 Ex. Paratypes (ojj>): from the same Key to genera and species of the African Zerconidae 1 (2) Peritremal shields extended posteriorly, especially lateral ends extending to seta R3. Peritremal shield with two setae pi and p2, both short and smooth. Adgenital shields and single openings of glands gv2 absent. Sternal shield completely divided into two parts (Rafas gen. n. ) Rafas bisternalis sp.n. (Tunisia) 2 (1) Peritremal shield terminating truncately posteriorad behind fourth pair of coxae. Peritremal shield with two setae, pi short and smooth, p2 long and pilose. Adgenital shields present. Sternal shield entire ( Zercon C. L. Koch, 1836). 3 (8) Anterior margin of ventro-anal shield with two setae. 4(5) Seta SI equalling seta 1 1 Zercon hispanicus Sellnick, 1958 (Algeria) 5 (4) Seta SI at least twice as long as seta I 1. 6(7) Axes of inner and outer dorsal cavities strikingly oblique. Seta 15 reaching beyond posterior margin of opisthonotum Zercon indiscretus sp.n. (Tunisia)
