the territory (it is now in Finland) given by the author of the species (A.Guenée) as the locality of the type (which was lost), but it agrees with the holotype of P. gallicolana Lienig-Z. In the case of P. albuginana Gn. , WOLFF designated a neotype from Finnish specimens, because there is the possibility that Guenée described the species in question on the basis of such a specimen (more exactly, on the basis of a figure drawn from such specimen), and not on the basis of a specimen of P. gallicolana or P. suspectana of similar appearance. (The original figure is rather schematic, and - with regard to a large individual variation of wing-patterns within the species of the argyrana group - it may represent a specimen of P. gallicolana, or of P. suspectana /on the other hand, there are type-specimens of these species/, but it cannot be disproved that the figure in question really was drawn from a specimen of a third species, P. albuginana sensu PIERCE and METCALFE 1922. ) WOLFF states moreover that the genitalia of the (male) neotype designated by him for P. albuginana Gn. agree with the genitaRa preparation from which F.N. PIERCE drew the figure of the male genitaRa of P. albuginana (PIERCE and METCALFE 1922). The fact that P. ga.Hicolana Lienig-Z. (as synonymous with P. albuginana Gn. by him as well) does not agree with P. alb uginana Gn. was contended also by KUZNETZOV, but he regarded the latter as Pamm ene reisseri Rbl. (KUZNETZOV 1964, DANILEVSKII and KUZNETZOV 1968). P. reisseri was described by H. REBEL (1937) on the basis of a single female specimen from Austria, but without a description of the genitaRa. KUZNETZOV investigated and described the genitalia of both the holotype and a male specimen from the locality of the holotype. He established, that both the male and the female genitaRa of this species agree with those drawn by PIERCE and METCALFE as the genitalia of P. albuginana Gn. , but KUZNETZOV believes the identification made by authors is erroeneous. As WOLFF verified that P. albuginana represented by the neotype described by him, agrees with P. albuginana Gn. sensu PIERCE and METCALFE, and since KUZNETZOV- who examined P. reisseri Rbl. - himself regards the latter species as agreeing with P. albugi nana Gn. sensu PIERCE and METCALFE, we may state that Pammene reisseri Rbl. is a junior synonym of Pammene albuginana Gn. (syn. nov. ) This inference is corroborated by the fact that in the year 1976 our sexual attractant traps captured more than 800 male specimens of a Pammene species, the genitaRa (fig. 1) of which agree absolutely with those of P. reisseri Rbl. (KUZNETZOV 1964, p. 697., fig. 5; DANILEVSKII and KUZNETZOV 1968, p. 426., figs. 3-4) and P. albuginana Gn. sensu WOLFF 1968, p. 322, fig. s 5-8), and which distinctly differ from the male genitalia of P. galRcolana Lienig-Z. (fig. 2). Finally, we must mention one more Tortricid species - Cnephasia alternella Steph. (fig. 4) - the determination of which caused some problems, because it is extremly variable both externally and genitaly. Dr. J. RAZOWSKI was so kind as to determinate this species, on the basis of specimens sent to him. (Earlier, specimens of C. alternella were generaRy regarded as C. chrysanteana Dup. This problem was solved by RAZOWSKI /1965/). REFERENCE CHAMBON, J.P. - d'AGUILAR, J.
