S. Mahunka szerk.: Folia Entomologica Hungarica 31/1. (Budapest, 1978)

Remarks: The ranging of the new species in the genus Pelzneria Scheucher, 1957 causes some consternation since an important generic feature: frontal margin of notogaster consisting of tiny arcs, is not readily recognizable. However, the chaetotaxy of legs, the course of apodemes strongly support the relation. The new species belongs in the speciesgroup of Pelzneria genus which has large sucking discs on epimeres 1 and 3 and in infracapitulum oblong in outline. It is readily separable from the related species by the extremely long solenidion 9 i on leg III. The genus Pelzneria was unknown from zoogeographical region before. Pteranoetus incertus sp. n. Measurements. - Length: 166-168 yu, breadth: 118-126 ja. Habitus: Body ellipsis in outline, rounded in front and behind by same arc. Surface strongly punctate. Dorsal side (Fig. 120): Propodosoma similar to a section of a circle, without an apex in the middle. Inner pair of hairs emitted in front of outer one. Notogastral hairs short but clearly seen. Ventral side (Fig. 121): Gnathosoma (Fig. 124) developed, infracapitulum oblong. Apodemes thick, long, ap. sa. ending just in front of sejugal apodemes, ap. 2 reaching beyond sejugal apodemes. Apodemes forming a closed mesh on posterior sternal plate, ap. 4 very broad. Epimeres 1 and 3 with sucking discs. Sucking discs beside rudiment of genital plate encircled by chitinized laths in which enclosure genital opening also present. Adhering plate broad, discs D and Ds clearly perceptible. Legs: Leg I (Fig. 122) peculiarly modified, tibia, genu and femur narrow in dorsal view, on the other hand, extraordinarily broadened in lateral view, heavily chitinized, almost distorted. Tibiotarsal solenidion group consisting of 4 members, £ longer than CJ Adhering hair large with a short stalk. Leg II (Fig. 123) only slightly modified. On it f j and <^ j about same length. Leg III (Fig. 125) with a large claw and a long solenidion V j. End of leg IV (Fig. 126) bearing no claw. End-hair long. Material examined: Holotypus: No. 3202: Costa Rica; 63 ex. paratypes: from the same locality. Holotype and 20 paratypes: USNM; 30 paratypes (214-PA-77): HNHM; 10 paratypes: CR; 3 paratypes: MHNG. Remarks: The new species is placed in the genus Pteranoetus Mahunka, 1977 on the basis of its shoulder scale. It may readily be separated from all other related SDecies by its most peculiarly shaped leg I. Pteranoetus latus sp. n. Measurements. - Length: 213-228 p., breadth: 117-191 yu. Habitus: Body very broad at posterior part. Resembling a broadly rounded egg. Dorsal surface very weakly punctate. Dorsal side (Fig. 127): Propodosoma in the middle with a scarcely protruding apex. Surface without peritrema. Inner pair of hairs emitted in front of outer one, aU being short like those on hysterosoma. Hairs of latter slightly varying in lengths. Dorsosejugal region with a fine sculpture. Ventral side (Fig. 128): Solenidia of gnathosoma (Fig. 131) long, curved. Infracapitulum approximately as long as tibia of leg I. Apodemes well developed, long though thin, ap. sa. ending well in front of arc of sejugal apodemes of proximal sternal plate, neither ap. 2 reaching the same. Apodeme 3 scarcely distinguishable from sejugal apodemes. ap. sp. fusing with latter, thus posterior sternal plate having a closed mesh of apodemes. Epimeres 1, 3 and 4 with one elongate, ellipsis-like sucking disc each. Adhering plate not large, only discs D perceptible. Legs: Legi (Fig. 129) and II (Fig. 130) heavily chitinized. Solenidion <^> 1 of leg I thin, ^2 extraordinary, rather lanceolate, t robust, short and well perceptible. u0 ^ °' leg II extremely thick, broadening at distal end. Legs III and IV (Fig. 132, 133) without claws. End-hair of leg III weakly broadening, like a sword, that of leg IV simple.
