S. Mahunka szerk.: Folia Entomologica Hungarica 31/1. (Budapest, 1978)

Remarks: The species is best characterized by the solenidia of the tibiotarsus on leg I and the same on leg II. I dedicate the new species to Dr. R. J. ELZINGA, collaborator of Dr. C.W. RETTENMEYER. Histiostoma incurvata sp. n. Measurements. - Length: 208 u, breadth: 160 ja. Habitus: Body much resembling a triangle standing on one apex, like a sunflowerseed. In front broadly rounded off, behind almost apicate. Dorsal surface evenly, finely punctate. Dorsal side (Fig. 71): Propodosoma encircling hysterosoma like a narrow ribbon. Dorsosejugal region with scarcely distinguishable sculpture. Propodosomal hairs originating near body margin, inner pair much shorter than outer one. Hysterosomal hairs simple, short and needle-like. Ventral side (Fig. 72): Solenidia of gnathosoma and infracapitulum extremely long (Fig. 75), latter longer than tibia of leg I. Sternal plate divided by narrow apodemes, though epimeres 1 closed, ap. sa. and ap. 2 fused with sejugal apodeme. Posterior sternal plate much narrower than anterior one. Apodemes 4 of a characteristic shape, arcuate, ap. sec. distinguishable, but ap. sp. not fused with it. Epimeres 1 and 3 with one sucking disc each. Adhering plate small, disc D2 much larger than others. Legs: Joints of leg I (Fig. 73), especially tibia and genu broadening towards their bases. Group of solenidion on leg I consisting of 4 members, no significant difference in length existing among them, only £ longer than ^ or f 2* Solenidion f 1 of leg (Fig. 74) significantly longer than U9 End-hair of leg III (Fig. 76) short, solenidion f 1 extraordinarily long, only a little shorter than tarsus. Tarsal claw missing from leg IV (Fig. 77), end-hair long. Basal part of tarsus short, proximal part normal. Material examined: Holotypus: No. 2721: Panama; deposited in the USNM. Remarks: Its generic ranging was difficult owing to its habitus, shape of apodemes, structure of legs. Nevertheless, for the time being the new species is included in the genus of Histiostoma Kramer, 1876. Histiostoma moralesi sp. n. Measurements. - Length: 168 ja, breadth: 119 u. Habitus: Propodosoma approximately triangular in outline with rounded rostrum. Hysterosoma broadest in proximal one-third. Surface strongly punctate. Dorsal side (Fig. 78): Body hairs minute, difficult to distinguish. Inner pair of hairs on propodosoma originating in front of outer one. Ventral side (Fig. 80): Gnathosoma (Fig. 79) short, width and length of infracapitulum equal. Apodemes well developed, though ap. sa. ending freely, far from arc of sejugal apodemes. ap. sec. also distinct. Epimeres 1, 3 and 4 carrying large sucking discs, the one on epimere 1 situated unusually to rear, close to sejugal apodemes. Adhering plate large, aU discs well discernible. Legs: Solenidia of tibiotarsus on leg I (Fig. 82) long, ^ 1 twice as long as f 2» 6 even longer than latter, while UD j shorter. Tarsal solenidion of leg II (Fig. 81) very long. End-hairs of legs III and IV (Fig. 83-84) long. Material examined: Holotypus: No. 3099: Costa Rica; deposited in the USNM. Remarks: In several respects it bears relation with the herewith described H. rostrata sp. n. , but its chaetotaxy of legs I and IV significantly differs from the latter. I dedicate the new species to Mrs. Lois MORALES.
