FOLIA XXIX. I. Contributions to the Knowledge of the Genus Epilohmannia Berlese, 1916 (Acari: Oribatida) By B, M. BAYOU MI and S. MAHUNKA (Received I February, 1976) Abstract: Various European and Egyptian Epil ohm annia species were examined. New localities for E . c ylindrica (Berlese, 1904) are reported. E. cyl indrica f. minima Schuster, 1960 is henceforth considered to be E. cylindrica minima stat. n. and recorded as new for the Hungarian fauna. In addition to the supplementary description of E. het erotricha Mahunka, 1966, a new subspecies, E. pall i da aegypri_ca_ ssp.n. , and a new species, E. imreorum from Egypt and Rumania, respectively, are described. An identification key for all known Epilohmannia species is prepared. It was HAMMEN (1959) who revealed the history and the questions of synonymy within the genus Epilohmannia Berlese, 1916. He examined BERLESE' s type, summarized, and accurately appraised the descriptions of the taxa given by OUDEMANS (1917). Since the work of BERLESE, several authors (SELLNICK, JACOT, BALOGH, MAHUNKA, PÉREZ-INIGO, WOOLLEY and HAMMER) worked on the genus, either by adding new taxa to it, or giving data on their distribution. One of the most significant works is that of SCHUSTER (1960) who summarized the European species and described several new taxa. WALLWORK (1962) worked up the African species belonging into this genus, while AOKI (1960, 1965) gave extensive information concerning the fauna of the Oriental and Pacific Regions.
