FOLIA ENTOMOLOGICA HUNGARICA ROVARTANI KÖZLEMÉNYEK (SERIES NOVA) XXVII. 2. 1974. p. 245-248 Musings and Perambulations of a Hymenopterist By L. H. WOOLLATT (Received October 30, 1973) ABSTRACT: Some personal notes and recollections on the author' s extensive travels are given together with pertaining sawfly referencesiamply complemented with a list of literature . Following the limitless ramRications of the Hymenoptera cannot fail to enrich ones understanding. I have always considered my deep concern as a figure draughtsman with axial design construction, sculpture and surface textures prime factors in my delving into the study of the Symphyta. Unfortunately as an Art Lecturer I was invariably very occupied during the major flight period of sawflies. However, modest progress was made aided by being; in touch with other Symphyta specialists. A great privilege was to know and collect with Dr. R.C .L. PERKINS who lived for many years in Devon. He had contributed to entomological knowledge since the 1880' s. R. B. BENSON was of my own generation and I visited him when I could at the British Museum (Nat. Hist.). Quite early on, he introduced me to the superb field entomologist PHILIP HARWOOD who at that time was living in the Spey Valley in Scotland, a very rich Symphyta area (e.g. the type locality for Dolerus harwoodi B ENS.).My technique and appreciation of taxonomic character was helped further by collecting and working with dipterists J. E. COLLINS and A . C. M. D'ASSIS FONSECA and hymenopterist Dr. M. W. R. de V. GRAHAM.
