S. Mahunka szerk.: Folia Entomologica Hungarica 27/1. (Budapest, 1974)

Holotype female, and male and female paratypes, in my own collection. England: Middlesex, near Southgate, 23.VTII.1966, 3 males and 2 females; 4. VŒL 1967, 8 females (one the Holotype); 27. V. 1970, 4 males and 3 females; all swept from small stands of Phalaris arundinacea L. (M.W.R. de V. GRAHAM). The female of phalaridis sp.n. is extremely close to that of suecica v, ROSEN, but differs in having the first segment of the antennái clava separated from the second by a rather deep constriction, whereas in suecica there is at most a shallow constriction; also in having a rather larger and more triangular stigma in the forewing, and in the broader and more distinct alutaceous impunctate hairless band on the gena. It also much resembles roseni CLARIDGE but differs particularly in its longer gaster

, In roseni this is approximately equal in length to the thorax and in profile appears only about 1.7 times as long as high, whilst its tip is hardly acuminate, and tergite 9 is barely as long as 8 as measured along the medio-dorsal line, whereas in phalaridis it tends to be slightly longer than 8. It also differs from roseni in having the stigma if the forewing slightly larger and more subtriangular, with a longer uncus. The male of phalaridis differs from that of suecica in having the seventh funicular segment separated from the sixth by a wellmarked constriction and usually by a very distinct peduncle; in male suecica 7 is closely united with 6 so that the clava is not constricted at the junction of the two segments

. It differs from the male of collaris Walker in having the expanded nodes of the funicular segments a little broader; size greater, in collaris at most 2.3 mm; space slightly broader; forewing a little broader (in collaris 2.3-2.55 times as long as broad)
