Les Chilostigmini sont très isolés par toute une série de caractères des genitalia des deus sexes. " Tribus: Limnephilini KOLENATI, 1859 1 (4) Apex of fore wing arcuately excised. 2 (3) Wings in expanded position more than 50 mm long. Lateral branch of radial vein of hind wing and media not branching forkedly in the same line in apical third of membrane; basal part of lateral branch of radial vein shorter. - Type-species: punctatolineatus RETZIUS, 1783 (Phryganea). Only the type species European, living in West - and North Europe Macrotaulius SCHMID, 1952 3 (2) Wings in expanded position less than 40 mm long. Lateral branch of radial vein of hind wing and media branching forkedly in approximately the same line in api­cal third of membrane. Fore and hind wings shown in Fig. 19 and 20. - Type­species: pellucidus RETZIUS, 1783 (Phryganea). A single species known from the whole continent, except South Europe. Glyphotaulius STEPHENS, 1837 4 (1) Apex of fore wings not arcuate. 5 (6) Tibial spurs: 1, 3, 3, that is, on hind tibia three spurs present. Fore wings with sparse patches. Alar expanse of hind wings about 20 mm. - Type-species: productus MORTON, 1896 (Asynarchus) . - Only the type-species European, li­ving in North Europe. Lenarchus MARTYNOV, 1914 6 (5) Tibial spurs: 1, 3, 4, that is, on hind tibia four spurs present. 7 (8) Environment of fourth apical vein black or discernibly of a brownish colour (Fig. 22). Fore wings relatively narrow, apex somewhat elongate, radial vein before its end strongly undulating; discoidal cell long, longer than basal part of lateral branch of radial vein (Fig. 21). - Type-species: interrogationis ZETTERSTEDT, 1840 (Phryganea). European species: interrogationis ZETTERSTEDT, 1840 (Phryganea) (NorthEurope, Greenland, Canada), nigropunctatus RETZIUS, 1783 (Phryganea) (Europe), nitudus MÜLLER, 1764 (Pryganea) (West, North and Central Europe), signatipennis MACLACHLAN, 1876 (North Europe), submacu­latus (RAMBUR, 1842 (Limnephila) (West and South Europe) Grammotaulius KOLENATI, 1848 8 (7) Environment of fourth apical vein not black, but colourless. 9 (10) Anastomoses of hind wings ranged along a regular wavy line, its direction paral­lel with longitudinal axis of body. - Type-species: rhombicus LINE, 1758 (Phry­ganea). 52 species living in Europe, including type-species.
