While we were in Pyongyan /3rd-21at Auguat and from the 31st of August till the 7th Of September/ our Malaise-trap was ereoted in the garden of Pyongyan Hotel, save I6th-17th of August when it functioned in Bongwa-ri and 5th of September when in Guk-san bong by Nam-po. The hotel's garden is in the close neighbourhood of the town's park by the river Te-dong, Fortunately, DDT was used but scarcely both in the park and the garden,which reflected also in the number of animals captured by the trap: approx. I65OO specimens,which means for 26 days a daily average of 63O,Although the trap was not erected at the most favourable site still the variety of animals is striking. The majority of insects in Korea too were Diptera: 65-75 per cent, next comes Hymenoptera: 20-30 per cent. Of course, various leafhoppers, butterflies and beetles were also trapped in the apparatus. The composition of daily catch clearly showed the swarming time of certain Diptera and Hymenoptera species; and in one night a species of a Geometrid moth came in such a quantity that they almost filled the plastic container by the morning.
