intestine, furthermore, it issues one motoric nerve /n - 57/ which runs into the muscle regulating the wall of the oesophagus. Besides these motoric nerves, although may not be called typical, for they may be lacking, another sensory nerve is known, called nervus hypocerebral is characterizing generally the paraneopterous insects. The third sympathetic centre, the corpora cardiaca, is situated behind the ganglion hypocerebrale ,or beneath or even beside it, which is in connection through a nerve trunk each with the paired corpora allata, the latter sometimes is regarded by certain authors as the fourth sympathetic centre. The corpora cardiaca emits an unparied nervus aortae posterior above the oesophagus and below or beside the oesophagus a paried nervus aortae anterior running back toward the blood-vessel, these nerves pass between the aorta and intestine far into the trunk. In the majority of insects, between the corpora cardiaca and the tritocerebrum belonging to the central nervous system various types of synapses may be observed /Pig. 3/° Numerous authors on these grounds feel that division of the sympathetic system into the so-called prae- and postcerebralis is justified. Because the connection between nervus frontalis and ganglion frontale, in principle, strikingly resembles the one mentioned above. In certain insect types the corpora cardiaca may form laterally one nervus corporis cardiacii each. The 32 orders /ordo/ of insects display a great variety of types of sympathetic nervous system which may only be grouped into several groups of forms. Each of these /9 in number/ has been described and uniformly evaluated but because they may not be included into the typization of insect head, consequently, I shall not discuss them in this contribution. Hereunder, I wish to present in tabulated form the typical nerves and muscles of the anatomical regions of the insect head /for technical reasons I shall not repeat the names of muscular nerves but mark them with I.e./:
