The rearing of Chondrosoma fiduciaria ANKER This interesting and rare Lepidopteron was discovered and described by R. ANKER, lepidopterist in Budapest, in the last century. I. FRIVALDSZKY discussed in his work "Characteristic Data to the Fauna of Hungary" (1865) the male and female imagos as well as the larva of the specie s ,together with the foodplant bearing the ringsof eggs of the female. The plant shown is Euphorbia pannonica. In later times, these data must in part have been forgotten, since, e.g. L. ABAFI-AIGHER wrote in his "Lepidoptera of Hungary", that both the female and the larve are unknown. The indigenous locality of the species is the plateau of Tetany, near Budapest. The author searched for the exact site for long years, until he captured two male specimens on 22 October, 1967.In the succeding year he captured more than 20 specimens, while J.. SZOCS discovered also the egg-rings of the species. Rearing was attempted on the basis of F. KASY's description. The first larvae hatched from the eggs in next April, feeding on the flower buds of Euphorbia. At the same time, about 30 larvae were discovered also in the field. The larvae were wholly developed by the end of May and the first days of June, and then retreated underground for pupation.About 50% of the larvae died during this process. The pupae were kept in a shaded site and constantly sprayed. The imagos appeared in October, during the evening or night hours. The first imago eclosed on 12 October, the last one on 3 Hovember;the ratio of the sexes was 1:1. Five freshly hatched females were taken to the site of collecting and copulated with the arriving males. The period of most copulae was no more than 1-2 minutes, but one was protracted for about 20 minutes. The females do not attract the males any more after mating, indeed, in general after 10 minutes oviposition
