37. Pretsea: Western region N. 4.55, W. 1.52, Alt.: 80 ft (24 m) . Rainforest zone. Pretsea, together with the Sese area, has the largest oil palm plantations in Ghana. In connection with the oil palm leaf-miner investigations, several collections have been made by beating the fronds of oil palms and netting the un­dergrowth. Palm nut bunches have been used for trapping in­sects and left on the ground for 5 to 10 days before the insects were beaten out onto a sheet. An air plankton col­lection has been made covering about 30 miles (50 km) in the plantation,on the main road and through secondary bush down to the sea at Busua. 38. Tafo: Central region N. 6.14, W. 022, Alt.: 650 ft (198 m). Semideciduous forest zone . The headquarters of the Cocoa Research Institute with large plantations.The vegetation is similar to that around Bunsu. Some collections have been made in the cocoa forests, in secondary bush, and on a meadow in the Institute's campus. The light trap was operated at a site overlooking the meadow with a small stream and cocoa forest in the background. 39. Tamale: Northern region N. 9.25, W. 0.53, Alt.: 604 ft (184 m). Northern woody savanna zone. Tamale is the biggest town and centre of the northern half of Ghana. The vegetation is a multifold transition between the guinea type woody savanna and the more open sudan type savanna. Some nettings have been made around the town. 40. Wa: Northern region N. 10.04, W. 2.30, Alt.: 1,061 ft (323 m) . Northern woody savanna zone. The savanna is of the guinea type, stil] less dense that in the Damongo area.
