Though World War II caused another throwback in the development of the Society, it failed to warp it to the degree the previous one did. The Society was able to array its ranks, and take up regular activities, in 1946. One of the cardinal ingredients in the reawakening of the Society was the basically caanged attitude of the entomologists of the Natural History Museum and the experts in applied entomology toward the Hungarian Entomological Society and amateurism. They became aware of the fact that the amateurs, the main corps of the Entomological Society even today, have essentially altered their relations toward entomology. Life subsequent to World War II had almost entirely done with the kind of amateurism which connected collecting hobbies with business interests. The majority of amateurs realized that by their researches and collectings they have to promote home entomological sciences, and they were given every chance to join all scientific activities in accordance with their abilities. Amateurs took part in the great project: the faunistic exploration of the country, - since they understood that without their assistance this work can never be realized by the research workers of the several institutions alone. At the present date, there are more than half a million specimens of Lepidoptera and about 300.000 beetles, together with some 10.000 other insects, in the possession of amateur collectors. Their greater part is invaluable. Without doubt, this material will, by the new Museum Act, augment either as purchases or as gifts the zoological collections of the Natural History Museum, - and this within the next fifty years. Hence, it is also the fundamental policy of the Museum that no discontinuity should occur in the work of the amateurs, as in this way amateurism becomes the inexhaustible source of the augmentation of our national collections. Realizing this fact, the Museum paid due attention to the Hungarian Entomological Society, which assembles Hungarian entomologsits in
