middle of the unfortunate party warfares of the zoologists of that time, kept it together in an eminent and unimpaired spirit until his death in 1909. As still a university student, E. CSIKI was an enthusiastic member of the entomological society, presided over by N.UHRIK. According to the minutes of the society, he made a motion, already in 1905, for the establishment of an „official" society. Though his proposal was met witth unanimous approval,nothing came of it. The situation ripened only in 1910 for a successful realization of the gathering into a common society of the Hungarian entomologists. E.CSIKI shouldered the brunt of organizing it, and G .HORVÁTH gave ample support with his eminent scientific authority. Forty-one Hungarian entomologists were present at the general assembly, and founded and duly entered the Society, on 14 May 1910. Membership rocketed to 80 at the and of 1911. This was the main set which directed the life and fates of the Society for long decades to come. There were, among the founding members, Dr. GÉZA HORVÁTH, the first president of the Society; ERNŐ CSIKI, the first secretary and later also president; JÓZSEF JABLONOWSKI, president of later years; SÁNDOR M0CSÁRY, succeeding G. HORVÁTH in the president's chair; and the best entomologists, such as GYŐZŐ SZÉPLIGETI, ZOLTÁN SZILÁDY, OTTÓ MIHÓK, JÓZSEF'HAJÓSS, etc. Of the founding members, only Dr. ANTAL SCHMIDT and Dr. LAJOS S0ÓS are still living. Dr. JENŐ FODOR, JENŐ GYŐRFFY, Dr. GYULA KADOCSA, and MIKLÓS MÓCZÁR look back to a membership of fifty years and also take an active part In the life of the Society even today. There can be no doubt that our Society has much to thank those members who persevered in difficult times and notwithstanding led the Society onward. Membership increased to almost its sixfold during the three years 1917-1919.
