Kovács I. Endre szerk.: Rovartani Közlemények (Folia Entomologica Hungarica 12/1-23. Budapest, 1959)

Staphylinu8 chloropterus Pz. Philonthus sp. Aleochara bipustulata L. Onthophagus coenobita Herbst Ontophagus verticicornis Laich. Histeridae: Hister cadavorinus Hoffm. Geotrupes stercorosus Scriba Geotrupes veraalis L. Trox hispidus Pont. Of the above enumeration we find that 31 semaphoronts were found but not all were suitable to afford deductions for ecological purposes. First of all, the Carabids were not helpful at all though they showed the highest species-number in the majority of cases no more than 2-3-4-5 specimens turned up on every occasion. Carabus convexus F. is an exception, it appeared on one occasion in a striking number: a total of 26 specimens. On the contrary, Aleochara bipustula ta L. covered the bait in high numbers at all times. Owing to their small size, I had to desist marking them. On the basis' of the abovea I wish to deal with five species only: Thanathophilus thoracicus L. , Hecrophorus hu ma tor Goeze, Necrophorus vespilloldes Herbst, Geotrupes stercorosus Scriba, and Onthophagus coenobita Herbst. For the present purposes, only these semaphoronts were suitable for ecological computations. Van der Drift binds the applicability of the „Lincolnindex" in connection with the beetles to three conditions, to viz.: „1/ No new animals hatch during the course of time between releasing and recatching the animals. 2/ Eventual mortality takes place at the same rate with marked and unmarked animals, while activity is the same in both groups. 3/ The releasod marked animals do not leave the experimental area in this course of time and no immigration nor emigration takes place in the autochthonous population."
