Kocsis László - Mráv Zsolt: Egy késő római sisak arcvédő lemezének töredéke Dunafalváról (Bács-Kiskun megye)

TARSOLYL EMEZ PERM KÖRNYÉKÉRŐL 255 part masks and the single masks covering the entire face could be clearly observed during the excavation of the Bayanovo cemetery between 2005 and 2009. Two-part masks were the norm in the burials of the grave rows dating from the late 9 , h century, while the burials in the grave rows from the early 10 t h century all contained masks covering the entire face, suggesting that the mask type had been used for a brief period, probably at the onset of the 10 t h century, alongside the masks used during later periods. This is supported by the observation that half masks and face masks occur in burials of the same grave row. The oval and trapezoidal face masks of the 10 t h and early 1 l , h century, characterized by eye and mouth shaped cut-outs (although in some cases, only the nose was indicated), principally occur in the Perm area and in Volga Bulgaria. The mask created from the pouch plate can be assigned to the group of half masks and can be dated to the late 9 l h century or the turn of the 9 t h-10 t h centuries, "fhe Perm pouch plate can thus be regarded as one of the earliest pouch plates among similar finds. We may therefore conclude that the origins of pouch plates can be sought in the Uralian homeland of the ancient Hungarians. Translated by Magdalena Seieann
