Mráv Zsolt: Az intercisai auxiliáris castellum Commodus-kori monumentális építési feliratainak egy újabb töredéke

AZ INTF.RÍHSAI AUXILIÁRIS CASTELLUM ÉPÍTÉSI FELIRATAINAK EGY ÚJABB TÖREDÉKE 183 A NEW FRAGMENT OF THE COMMODIAN BUILDING INSCRIP TIONS OF THE AUXILIARY FORI AT INTERCISA (DUNAÚJVÁROS, COUNTY FEJÉR, HUNGARY) Andrea Buza, Péter Kovács and Barnabás Lőrincz have recently published (lie fragment of a monumental building inscription brought to light from a Late Roman grave in the southern cemetery of Intercisa, found near 35 Batsányi János Street in Dunaújváros in 2003 (Figs 1-2). 1 The surviving letters of the inscription were read as [— JÀNONÎNJ— I —]X IMP MII CO[— I 3 —]L ÂNTONINIAJ —] and the emperor named in Line 3 was identified with Caracalla based on the unit's adjective (Antoniniana). The military construction activ ity commemorated by the inscription was dated to 216—early 217 AD in view of the titulature — trib(unicia ) pot(estate) XI ov XjX, imp(erntori) III, co(n)[s(uli) IUI, p(atri) p(atriae) reconstructed in ablative of time. 2 However, the building inscription and the assumed extensive construction work cannot be dated to Caracalla's reign. The fragment is part of a series of building inscriptions from the time of Commodus together with two inscriptions with an identical text from Intercisa (RIU 1124, 1126) which were restored and interpreted by the present author. 3 The letters, the mediums and the find circumstances of the fragmentary inscription are identical to those of the two other monumental building inscriptions dating from 185 AD (RIU 1124 and 1126), as are its other measurable features (Table 1), as well as the position and arrangement of the lines. The remains of two abolitiones nominis performed on two separate occasions can be made out on the newly-found fragment: the name of Commodus was erased from the inscription's first line and the name of the governor L. Cornelius Felix Plotianus from the last line. No more than the iteration number MII of the imperial acclamations has survived of Commodus' titulature which, in view of the fragment's contemporaneity with RIU 1124 and 1126 and the identicalness of their text, can be restored as VII. Moreover, the new fragment fits perfectly into the drawn reconstruction of RIU 1126 (Fig. 6. 3). Owing to the low number of surviving fragments and to their distance from each other, it cannot be established with certainty whether the fragment had indeed been part of this inscription or part of a third inscription with a similar text. In the latter case, the fragment can be reconstructed as follows (Fig. 6. 4): llmp(erator) Caes(ar) M(arcus) Âûrel(ius) [[ Commodus ]] ] An<t>onin[us Aug(ustus) Pius Sârm(aticus) Gêrm(anicus) I max(imus) Brit(annicus) pont(ifex) max(jmus) trib(unicia) pot(estate) X i jmp(crator) VII co(n)[s(ul) IIIIp(ater) p(atriae) coh(orti) I Aûr(eliae) Antoni /' [nâe °° (i. e. milliariae) Hem(esenorum) fecit cûram agente // L(ucio) Cornelio Felice Plotiano leg(ato) pr(o) pr(aetore) J] ]. 1 BUZA-KOVÁCS-LŐRINCZ 2009 [2010], 157-160. 2 Buza-Kovács-Lörincz 2009 [2010], 158-159.
