EXCAVATIONS OF A „ROYAL" BARROW-GRAVE IN THE SOUTHERN UR.\ I. H7 Fig. 3. Golden torques from grave 2 ?. ábra. Arany nyakperec a 2. sírból There was a torques with ends bending on each other, made of a golden wire. The terminals of the torques were decorated by cast figurines of rams. Along the right shoulder bone, golden stamped plates depicting lions were cleaned. Eight large plates depicted a tiger en face with a head slightly raised above the forelegs. On the hips of the animals there were indentations in the shape of commas, bordered with granulation. These indentations and the interior surface of projecting ears were filled with whitish-light bluish enamel (Fig. 8). The rest of 1 1 smaller plates were made as profile depiction of tigers. From the back side of the figurines there were double loops for sewing on. We succeeded in recording a total of 19 plates that must have decorated the cloak along the left hand. On the wrists of the dead, massive golden cast bracelets were found. One of them is ring shaped. Its ends, decorated with depictions of an animal with ears and a long, narrow face, were closed. The other one, a more massive piece, is a socalled omega shaped bracelet with open ends, decorated with figurines of rams (Fig. 9.). Golden bracelets of similar shape and style are known from the materials of the Oxus Treasure where they were dated to the 5th - first half of the 4th century. 0 Across the bips, there was an iron akinakes-sword. At the right arm we found a quiver where a set of bronze arrowheads of different types was preserved (98 pieces). Next to it, we found an iron quiver-hook covered with golden foil and decorated in animal style. At the feet of the dead, there could be traced brown remains of two disc shaped wooden bowls. On the fragments of one of the bowls, pieces of undetermined iron objects were lying together with beads and pearls. On the other one, there was a disc shaped silver mirror with a bone handle attached with a rivet. The latter was decorated with an engraved depiction of a wolf. Beside that, golden beads, pieces of anthracite and red paint were found on the bowl. It is interesting that at the feet of a man, a typically Sarmatian female set was placed. The other skeleton belonged to a 18-20 years old girl. She lied stretched, on her back, oriented to the south with her head, face up. Her neck was decorated with a torques with end bending on each other. It was made of a cast golden wire, its ends decorated with figurines of a feline predatory animal. Contrary to the previous pieces, the surface of this torques was not smooth, but (luted. 6 ZEIMAL 1979.
