FOI.IA ARCHAKOI.OGICA LUI. 2007. BI IJAI'ESI SYLLOGE NUMMORUM GRAECORUM HUNGARY BUDAPEST MAGYAR NEMZETI MÚZEUM VOLUME III MOESIA INFERIOR SUPPLEMENT 1 NIGOPOLIS AD ISTRUM István VIDA The 3"' volume of the SNC. Budapest series was published in the summer of 2000. Since that time the Department of Coins and Medals of the Hungarian National Museum acquired many coins from this area, and there were some coins in our collection, which were not published in the volume for various reasons. These coins will be published in two papers. In this volume only the coins of Nicopolis ad Istrum are described, as they make up more than half of the newlv acquired material, while the coins of Callatis, Dionysopolis, Istrus, Marcianopolis, Odessus, and Tomis will be published in the next volume of Folia Archaeologica. In this article I break with the traditional sylloge format, since it was used onlv because it was made necessary by the old printing technology. I met this format in recent auction catalogues and found it to be very practical, as the pictures and the text are next to each other, but the text does not break the sequence of the coins and vice versa.
