Alfréd Dulai: Late Palaeolithic Fossil Collectors: Small Piles of Molluscs at Szob (Börzsöny Mts, North-Hungary)

34 ISTVÁN VÖRÖS wide and Hat. The dimensions of the ribs are listed in Table 2. The longest rib of the Egervár aurochs was the 8 t h one; the widest ones were the 6 t h-8 t h ribs. At the lower third of the left side 10 t h and the right side 9-10 l h ribs the margo cranialis is protruding at the edges in an П-form sharp crista. At the upper third of the left side 3 r d rib, the edge of the margo caudalis is rough, distorted with a concave surface that can be the result of a blow or a cleavage. The left side 11 t h rib is broken on one place, while both of the 12 t h ribs are broken at two places. The sin. 11 t h rib (Fig. 2.2) is 720 mm long. The rib is broken obliquely, 300 mm from the caput costae, and a pseudoarthrosis (pseudo-joint) is formed. The broken surfaces are uneven with irregular peaks and cavities joining to one another, forming a pseudo-joint. Due to periostitis, the spongious bone substance is thickened, on both ends of the fracture irregular bulb of callus was formed. The upper part of the fracture is smaller (breadth: 53 mm, thickness: 30 mm), the lower part of the fracture is bigger (breadth: 70 mm, thickness: 31 mm). The pseudoarthrosis surfaces are perforated by small foramens. The sin 12 t h rib (Fig. 2.3) is 680 mm long. The rib is broken at two places, 300 and 470 mm from the caput costae, respectively. At the upper oblique fracture, pseudoarthrosis (pseudo-joint) was formed. The injured ends of the rib are deformed. The end of the upper fractured part has a chisel-like peak (breadth: 42 mm, thickness: 22 mm), the end of the lower fractured part is notched in a V-shape (breadth: 50 mm, thickness 30 mm). The surfaces of the pseudoarthrosis are perforated by small foramens. The lower plane fracture healed without dislocatio with a thickened callus. The dimensions of the callus are the following: breadth 41, thickness 21 mm. The line of the fractura is still visible; the ossification of the broken surfaces is perfect. The dext. 12 t h rib is 680 mm long. It is broken at two places, 370 mm and 480 mm from the caput costae, respectively. Both fractures healed without dislocatio with a thickened callus. The dimensions of the calluses are: breadth 37, thickness 1 7 mm. Nr.
