ANIMAL REMAINS FROM AQUINCUM 77 There were bone remains of cattl e, sheep/goat, pig, dog, hare, poultr y and wild bird s found in the Mithraeum 2 9 . GERMANIA Königshoffen In the south-eastern end of the southern bench of the Mithraeum, on a higher level a pit for refuse E, was found with "bones of an ox, of goat s, hen s and a dee r 3 0 ". Künzin g (Lkr. Deggendorf) Nearly 20000 pieces of animal bone remains were found in the Mithrareum. The following species were described: cattle, sheep, goat, pig, hen, horse, dog, red dee r and har e 3 1 . Dieburg In the well beside the Mithraeum "bones of an o x and of a pig were found 3 2". Nid a - Heddernheim Mithraeum I. In shaft M., there were some "rubbish bone fragments: bones of bird s: teeth e.g. a tooth of a wild boa r, top of which has been transpierced 3 3". In the sanctuary pit inside Mithraeum I., remains of cattl e, goa t, pi g and poultry were found. In Cisterna E., remains of poultr y including a cock tmt and a pierced wild boa r "tooth" (tusk) 3 4. Mithraeum III. In a brick walled pit g in the aisle "many animal bones were found such as bones of bird s 3 5 ". In the central corridor of the cell there was a pit full with animal bones, mainly small ruminant s. The following animal bone remains were preserved: goa t (skull fr. with horn cores) 3 pi g teeth, tusks 3 6 . Ober-Florstadt Mithraeum with "animal bones, e.g. of oxe n and a bir d. Fragment of a bone flute" 3 7 . Taunum A Mithraeum sanctuary where "...bones of bird s and teeth of a boa r" were found 3 8 . GALLIA Venetonimagu s - Viau-en-Val-Romey Bones of animals and human bones were found in the Mithraeum. In a channel, "a quantity of ash together woth both animal and human bones" 3 9 were found.
