FOLIA ARCHAEOLOGICA XLV. 1996. BUDAPEST In memóriám Ilona Stanczik DOG AS BUILDING OFFERING FROM THE BRONZE AGE TELL AT JÁSZDÓZSA István VÖRÖS Northwest of the village Jászdózsa, the small hill Kápolna-halom is known for more than 200 years as an archaeological locality, clue to masses of human bone occurring 1 . In 1943, earthworks cut into the remains of a prehistoric settlement. Recognising the significance of the finds, the Jász Museum of Jászberény initiated excavations on (he cost of the museum, performed by Sándor Gallus from the Hungarian National Museum. Two exploring trenches were opened in August 1943, one near the mould and one on the mould. The observations were published in a short "preliminary" study 2. 1. JÁSZDÓZSA - KÁPOLNA HALOM, EXTERIOR SETTLEMENT Trench I. planted along the S side of the mould (10x2 m) transsected 4 meters of settlement layer 3 . 76 animal bone items were collected among the finds mentioned as "kitchen debris". The finds were brought into the prehistoric collection of the Hungarian National Museum (Pottery inventory book: 27/1944 - 64 animal bones, 9 pieces discarded), then transposed into the Archaeozoological Collection (inv.: 660-663, 60.24.1-36, 63.27.1-6, 67 pieces. One of the bones is a human pelvis fragment). According to Gallus, the finds belong to Br. IV phase (Füzesabony-Megyaszó type) according to Tompa. The fauna list of the exterior settlement was first published by S. Bökönyi 4, inaccurately. Besides the three most important livestock components ("BOS" Bos (cattle) - Ovis (sheep) - Sus (swine), other species are also included like horse and dog as well as the four big game of the period (Table 1).
