NEOLITHIC IH MAN REMAINS 67 The taxonomic classification of the human remains from Tiszalúc-Sarkad is fairly difficult since the fragmentary skeletal remains only enabled a very rudimentary analysis. Only so much could be established that the series is characterized by a high face, a mesodolichocrania, beside a high stature and a marked robusticity. - Several attempts have been made for the taxonomic characterization of the ALP popula­tion 1' since the publication of the first skeletal find in 1916.' It has been suggested that tliis population was taxonomically heterogen already in the early phase of the culture. An archaic, high and robust component which can probably be traced to a Mesolithic population, as well as its gracilized variant and a much more gracile component all occur.
