Description of tools (Figs. 4-13) Scrapers (Fig. 4. 1., Fig. 5. 1., la., Fig. 6. 1., Fig. 7. 1, 1 a-b.) They are made on wide, blade-like flakes with very high ridges and steep lateral faces, with arched, carefully manufactured chopperlike working edges, sometimes the working edges are narrowed oil the ventral faces. Some huge tools are similar to the gigantoliths from Arka (1600x100x80 mm/92 dkg, 1 10x60x50 mm/55 dkg - Fig. 5. 1 — 1 a, and Fig. 6. 1). However, neither this similarity nor the manufacture resembling to Lower Paleolithic or chopper retouches are cultural features but most probably they mean a functional similarity as well as it is a good illustration of the wasteful use of the raw material abundantly available on the spot. The carenoid character traceable here and there is most probably due first of all to the characteristics of the raw material, (banded-laminar structure) (Fig. 7. la-b). Burins (Fig. 4. 3; Fig. 8. 1,3; Fig. 10. 3a-b; Fig. 11. 1, 2, 5) They are also bulky angular core-burins, sometimes they are actually cores with chisel-edges. Pieces with double, middle and lateral working edges occur among them. The most beautiful tool of the site is a double burin from Diós, made of a non-local raw material (liver-brown radiolarite) (Fig. 11. 1 ). There are some damages on this tool caused by congelation. The carenoid character of burins is a technical feature. According to our experiences so far this type of tool seems to be connected to a special raw material type. Side scrapers (Fig. 6. 2., Fig. 7. 3., Fig. 8. 2., Fig. 9. 5; Fig. 10. la-b). They are atypical pieces; flakes or blade-like pieces, usually their longitudinal edges are worked by marginal retouches in rows. Bifaces (Fig. 11.3, 3a; Fig. 12. fa-b). Very archaic blank forms resembling to the pre-hand axes or the Bábonyian industry (Fig. 12. la-b). They are rougrily triangular, their bases are thick, the contours of their edges are zig-zag-like, worked with rough chopper-retouch. Notched flakes They are ad hoc tools, with deep notches, made by a single strike. Blades (Fig. 9. 1,2, 6; Fig. 10. 2; Fig. 11.4.) A proximal fragment of a tanged blade has a classical Upper Paleolithic character (Fig. 9. 1). Along the right edge of the blade with triangular cross-section the tang is made with a steep retouch; along the left edge there is a marginal l s see foot-note 13 1 6 see foot-note 14 1 7 Large rough flakes are included is this group
