38 features of the ratios of the bone remains from different species, a considerable divergence can be observed from the other known palaeolithic settlements in Hungary. Although the earlier settlements along the Danube Bend, Dunazug and the Inner Somogy territories reindeer dominated, the horse is more frequent in Szeged — Öthalom 1 2 and Tarcal — Citrombánya. Only in Madaras could horse remains be indentified in the find material of the settlement. Nadap is a campsite of a hunters' group specialized in horses — or here hunting only horses ? — where the 97% (bone pp) or 86% (indiv) of the hunted animals are Equida. The Equus bone material, found in the undisturbed portion of the hunters' camp reflects its butchering/anatomical distribution, a bone spectrum of a socalled transitional camp (% ratio): Head Trunk Meaty Dry Digits extrem. extrem. Nadap 55,56 5,88 7,18 26,80 4,58 Ságvár 75,82 0,41 3,45 17,22 4,10 The usable meat quantity from the 37 Equidae, 4 Kangifer and the 2 Bison , calibrated according to age groups is 5450 kg. In identifying the age of the hunted species from the Nadap hunters' camp two factors should be considered: 1. Among the tooth remains from E. germanicus, larger and stronger specimens (early form) can also be found (Table 2, 3) as compared to the Equus sp.I. = .E. germanicus (late form) tooth measurements from the Ságvár material. 2. The E. (Л.) cf. hydruntinus could only have come to the Carpathian Basin in the interstadial preceding the W III. or together with the modern mesolithic fauna following the Pleistocene. It can be stated with great confidence that the animal species from the Upper Palaeolithic settlement in Nadap belong to the so-called 'Anonymous fauna period' following the Istállóskő phase. One of the most characteristic cave fauna known from this period comes from the lower layer complex of the Pilisszántó I. Rock -shelter. 1 3 1 2 Vörös, I. 1987 1 3 T. Dobosi, V,- Vörös, I. 1987.
