74 ISTVÁN VÖRÖS In the crista sacralis media side of the 4— 5th vert, sacralis strong osteophyta had developed. The 1st vert, cattdalis had not been ossifed with the sacrum. The vertebrae dimensions are listed in Table 2 . and 4. 3.3. Thorax The ribs are in a fragmentary condition. From the right side row 10 ribs, while from the left side row only 3 have been preserved. The length of the intact ribs is between 320 (1st) and 700 mm; the greatest breadth of corpus costae ranges between 35 and 65 mm. On the proximal part of two left side ribs there are alterations: i. e. an exostosis in the collum costae and abrasion on the facies articulares of the caput costae (Fig. 1. 2., 3.). Only three pseudo-ribs had been collected. Only the caudal part of the sternum is present (Fig. 3. 1.). Dimensions are listed in Table 4. 3.4. Limb bones Forelegs are represented by sin. and dext. (Fig. 3.3.) scapula; sin. (Fig. 3.2.) and dext. humerus; sin (Fig. 4.3.) and dext. radius +ulna; magnum (C 2+ 3) sin. (Fig. 4.7.); metacarpus dext. (Fig. 4. 4.); os phalangis I. sin. ant. lat. (Fig. 4.6.); os phalangis III. ant. (Fig. 4.8.). Hind quarters are represented by sin. (Fig. 3.4.) and dext. pelvis; femur sin. (Fig. 4.1.); tibia sin. (Fig. 4.2.); ?netatarsus sin. (Fig. 4.5.). The long bones are well preserved, their walls are thick, their dimensions are large. Bone planes had developed on the border of the epiphyses of bones forming the joints of the knees and ankles. Pelvis bones on both sides are fragmentary. The dimensions of left pelvis (in mm): ala o. ilii breadth is 268; the corpus o. ilii height is 58; its thickness is 39; the corp. o. ischii height is 76; the length of acetabulum is 94; the length of for. obturatum is 120; its height is 63; the length of the ram. acet. o. pubis is 100; its thickniess is 43. The crista iliopectinea is well developed, the for. obturatum elliptic. The acetabulum is open, the acet. incisure is narrow. The fac. lunata has a large surface. The metacarpus diaph. index is 18,65; the distal index is 32,73. The meterarsal diaph. index is 12,23. conspicuously low. 3.5. Age of the individual The walls of the skull and of the horn-cores are thick and compact. The lower part of the sutura frontalis and the sut. lacrimo-maxillare are open. The tooth row is all erupted. More than half of the crown of the M 1 is worn off. The posterior part of sulcus supraorbitalis is completely bridged. The orbits have a strong tubular character. All the limb bones and the epiphyses of the vertebrae are completely fused. All these features together demonstrate that the KecelRózsaberek aurochs in an adult but not a particularly old individual; it is 8— 10 years old. 3.6. Sex The dimensions of the skull and limb bones; the shape of horn-cores, the thick medial wall of the pelvis bone, the well developed crista iliopectinea, the
