Bison Analysing the distribution of animal bones of 21 hunted mammals found in the Istállóskő Cave according to their body regions (Table 3) we can establish that in case of Carnivores : — the absence of meaty bones and the dominant appearance of dry bones and phalanges refer to the fact that only the skinned hides of brown bear, badger, lion and wild cat were those parts of these animals which had got into the cave. - the partly boned meaty limbs of wolf, fox, hyaena, lynx and blue hare had got into the cave within the hide in most cases together with the extremities of legs. The trunk bones of only these animals — except hyaena — were found, although in a small quantity. In case of Herbivores — among medium size animals (Rupicapra, Capra, Rangifer) limbs cut from the trunk and partly boned (a few meaty, many dry bones, especially carpal/tarsal) were transported to the cave inside the hide together with the extremities of legs (larger number of phalanges). The trunk bones of only these animals occur in minimum quantities.
