54 I. VÖRÖS From the Early Neolithic four settlements of the Körös culture yielded bones of wild ass and in two settlements of the same culture came to light the bones of wild horse. This period is the beginning of the Atlantic phase and at the same time the beginning of the faunistical Körös phase. 4 0 In the Carpathian Basin the first warm-humid maximum of the Holocene falls to this period. The average July temperature is 19—20 C°. 4 1 We have a C 1 4 date from GyálarétSzilágyi major: Bln-75 7090 ±100 B.P. 4 2 From the Middle Neolithic wild ass found in one settlement and wild horse in five settlements. This period is the Middle Atlantic, the middle of the faunistical Körös phase. 4 3 In the Carpathian Basin the temperature decreased gradually and the climate became more arid. The average July temperature decreased to 17 C°. 4 4 From the Late Neolithic the wild ass came to light from two settlements, while the horse was found in ten settlements. This period is the end of the Atlantic and the beginning of the Subboreal, which faunistically correspond to the end of the Körös phase and to the beginning of the Bükk phase. 4 5 In the history of the Holocene climate of the Carpathian Basin the first maximum of extreme aridity falls to this period. The climate became warm and dry. The July average temperature arose over 17 C° (2. climatic optimum). 4 6 We have C 1 4 dates from the settlements of the Tisza culture at Kisköre-Gát: 47 Bln-515 5890+120 B.P. Bln-179 5995 ±180 B.P. III. The immingration of subfossil wild Equids into the Carpathian Basin "Asinus hydruntinus" S. Bökönyi was the first who published, from the Early Neolithic Period, small Equid remains from the settlement of the Körös culture at Hódmezővásárhely-Bodzáspart in the Great Hungarian Plain. 4 8 He identified the remains of this small Equid with the species Equus (Asinus) hydruntinus Regalia known from the R —W Interglacial and from the Lower Würm (cold mousterian), the Varbó-Subalyuk-Tokod phases of the Utrecht faunal wave. 4 9 Later the late 4 0 Kretxpi, M. — Vértes, L., loc. cit. 4 1 Kordos, L., loc. cit. 4 2 Krolopp, E., Földr.
