Inv. no. 57.569.1. (Fig. 17, no. 11). Üjfehértó Micske-puszta. (54) According to a record found in the archives of the Jósa András Museum a biconical urn with straight rim came to light. Its belly was decorated with four vertical ribs. It contained burned bone remains. H. 28.5 cm, d. base 11 cm. Lost. Vaja. (32) Stray find. JAM, Nyíregyháza. Cup with handle, decorated on the shoulder with three curved ribs. Grey, rough surface, restored. Inv. no. 64.897.2. (Fig. 16, no. 14). Muhi Princ-tanya. (35) T. Kemenczei selected the finds of the Berkesz —Demecser type from the material uncovered during the road construction in 1943. 3 7 Szabolcs-Szatmár County, unknown site, JAM, Nyíregyháza. 1. Cup with handle, on the belly there are four slightly protruding warts which are framed by bunches of lines incised in semi­circles. Grey, fragmentary. H. 10.5 cm, d. mouth 6.3 cm, d. base 5.5 cm. Inv. no. 62.223.35. (Fig. 17, no. 1). 2. Cup with handle, yellow, intact. H. 5.4 cm, d. mouth 7.1 cm. Inv. no. 57.397.17. (Fig. 17, no. 4). 3. Cup with handle, belly decorated with vertical grooves. Grey, restored. H. 6.8 cm, d. mouth 7.3 cm, d. base 4.5 cm. Inv. no. 57.393.1. (Fig. 17, no. 7). 4. Vessel standing on foot rim turned up into four warts and the belly is decorated with grooved warts and grooves. Grey, intact. H. 7.5 cm, d. mouth 11.4 cm, d. base 4.5 cm (without inv. no.). 5. H. 10.5 cm, d. mouth 22.5 cm, d. base 7.5 cm. Inv. no. 62.223.41. (Fig. 17, no. 10). 7. Cup with handle, decorated with vertical grooves and rib. Grudely worked, black, intact. H. 8 cm, d. mouth 13 cm. Inv. no. 57.397.27. (Fig. 17, no. 14). Two vessels are preserved in the Hungarian National Museum received in exchange (site un­known) which probably derive from the vicinity of Debrecen. Inv. no. 40.1916. — 1. Two-handled vessel, grooved warts and vertical burnishing decorate the shoulder. Black, intact. H. 4.8 cm, d. mouth 10.2 cm, d. base 4 cm (Fig. 17, no. 2). 2. Cup with handle, unornamented. Grey, intact. H. 5.3 cm, d. mouth 5.7 cm, d. base 3 cm (Fig. 17, no. 3). Although a considerable part of the enumerated finds came to light under unknown circumstances, the frequency of the sites in the area between the Szamos and Tisza Rivers — mainly in the middle part of the Nyírség —, reli­ably shows the centre of the area from which the Berkesz —Demecser ethnic group spread. This fact determines the starting point of our examinations: the topographical comparison of the finds of Berkesz —Demecser, with the sites of the Felsőszőcs group and the tumulus culture (Egyek group) living in this area in the first half of the late Bronze Age. If comparing our map (Fig. 19) with that of N. Kalicz charted at the sites of the Felsőszőcs group 3 8 we can observe significant differences. By distinguish­ing between the finds published by him as belonging to the late Felsőszőcs group, which are actually finds of the Berkesz —Demecser type, 3 9 the number of the 3 7 Kemenczei, T., Arch.
